On Friday 22nd May Harrison and Hetherington held their monthly Beef Breeding sale at Borderway Mart.
A great show of cows and heifers with calves at foot was forward with the best sale left to last and records being broken. Messrs Livingstone, Kirtlevale run of 49 outfits sold to average £5094 which topped at £9500 for a Limousin cross cow and bull calf, £9000 for a Limousin cross heifer & heifer calf and £8000 for a Limousin heifer and heifer calf. Messrs Miller, Crookdake Mill sold a Limousin cross cow and heifer calf sold for £7000. Messrs Malone, Pitcairn Farm sold 10 heifers and calves sold to average £5140 which topped at £6800 for a Limousin cross heifer & bull calf. Messrs Wilson, Parsonage Farm heifers and calves topped at £5800 for a Limousin cross heifer and bull calf. Messrs Dickinson, High House run of heifers and calves topped at £5400 for a Limousin cross heifer and bull calf. Messrs Pattinson, The Flatt topped the in calf heifers selling for £3100 for two Angus. Messrs Eve & Son, Stubbsgill Farm Limosuin bulls topped at £5250 and Messrs Norman, Little Orton Farm Limousin bulls sold for £5250.

Bulling Heifers: A catalogued entry of 165 were forward and sold to average £2192. Top end heifers were met by a strong trade, topping at 32300 for a British Blue heifer from Alan Twentyman, Osbourne Farm, with the same home sold Limousins to £3000 and average £2857.50 for 4. Messrs Foley, Mirlaw sold 14 heifers to a top of £3000 for Limousins and averaged £2650. Messrs Muir, Laithers sold a quality run of 17 to average £2238. Messrs Faulder, Croft House sold 35 Limousin cross heifers to average £2303 and topping at £2550. Messrs Chapman, Lane Head Farm sold 6 super first cross limousin heifers to average £2395 and topped at £2650. Messrs Harrington, Wellington Farm sold 21 younger dairy bred Limousins to average £1963.
A great trade was seen, leaving all vendors more than satisfied with their day’s trading.
