Borderway Weaned Cattle Sale

The weekly sale of weaned bulls & stirks took place in Borderway in ring 4. A show of 226 were forward including 106 weaned bulls.

A bull section average of £1414.90 was achieved with one of the best shows and biggest numbers seen for a period of time. Topping went to a Pure Limousin 14 months of age selling for £3300 from Messrs Fletcher, Black Cleugh. Charolais bulls topped at £2700 for a pure bull from Ben Radley, Dumfries again aged 14 month old. British Blue bulls topped at £2590 for a super bull from George Rome, Niven Hill. Angus bulls topped at £1690 from Alister Vance, Bridgehouse. Fleckvieh bulls topped at £1930 from Messrs Kirkwood, Dumfries. Dairy bulls topped at £1200 from Messrs Mawson, Seascale. A large ringside of buyers were present to ensure all classes were keenly bid for.

A smaller show of stirks forward this week with steers going on to average £1441.21

Topping went to a single Limousin steer from Charles Nixon, Hexham selling to £1890. The same home sold to 2 to £1880 and £1860 selling 7 to average £1754.29.

Angus steers topped at £1800 from Messrs Birse, Newton Stewart with the same home selling blues to £1780.  Messrs Strick, Overby House sold some beef bred Saler steers to £1470 and £1440.

Heifers went on to average £1219.32 with top price going on to £1720 for a Charolais heifer from Sue Dale Sunley, Castle Douglas. This home sold 4 to average £1605. Limousin heifers topped at £1700 from Messrs Stagg, Canonbie. Simmental heifers sold to £1550 for Messrs Gwynne, Newton Stewart.

A trade saw a rise on the previous week of £60-£80 with a pleasing sale witnessed all round.
