BECKLEES SHINE WITH SHEILA
The June Borderway Monthly Dairy Day sale once again featured an outstanding catalogue packed with a diverse range of highly functional and profitable dairy cattle from leading dairies across England and Scotland. 337 animals changed hands with an exceptional trade from start to finish.
Demand for all categories of dairy stock remains high with buyers recorded from 23 counties across England, Scotland & Wales. Trade topped at £3,200 on two occasions with the over average for milking cattle coming to £2464, In Calf heifer trade continued its upward trajectory with 129 heifers averaging over £2400.
The sale was sponsored by Agri-King with the top price cow going to Becklees Hanley Sheila who sold for £3200, she was consigned by Richard Carlile from Longtown. Sheila was sired by Hanley and was giving almost 50 kgs and was bred from an Excellent dam with high production and butterfat close to 5%.
The heifers also topped at £3200 with Parkend Mecca Tammy who was consigned by the Weatherup family from Fifie. Tammy was a perfect uddered heifer who was sired by Mecca P and was bred from a Very Good dam with production over 12000kgs
There were several attractive consignment of Ayrshire cattle in the sale with the top price coming from the Halmyre herd of the Davidson family from Castle Douglas. The sold 16 cows and heifers to average almost £2500 and topped with Halmyre Urr Louise 402 who sold for £2700.
Farming Partners from Dumfries sold an attractive group of dry cows due in July to the Angus. These cows were New Zealand Friesian in type and topped at £2000 on two occasions.
In-Calf heifers topped at £2800 on six occasions with the overall average for 129 heifers coming to £2407. Four of the heifers selling at £2800 were consigned by from Sanyknowe Farm near Kelso with their maternal lines all tracing back to the Coppside herd in Dumfries. The majority of the in calf heifers were all due in July and August.
All youngstock sold well with strong demand for all types. Holstein bulling heifers topped at £1550 for a Blondin Direct daughter who was consigned by the Crossfell herd from Kirby Thore and Pro Coross Yearling heifers topped at £1200 on serval occasions.
