Borderway Prime Bulls & Cattle

PRIME BULLS: A much smaller show of 65 prime bulls which was due the dryer spell which gave opportunity to silage and get some shearing done. The lesser number forward resulted in a trade 10-15p better on the week for all classes of well fleshed bulls. One of the heaviest bulls at 847kg was a 26month old Limousin from Messrs Neill, Upper Nisbet, Jedburgh receiving £3591.28. Messrs Jenkinson, Clifton Moor, Penrith sold 827kgs to £3432.05 and Messrs Miller, Allerby Hall, Wigton selling 820kgs to £3411.20 best Charolais came from Messrs Cleasby, Linden House, Penrith with 793kgs selling to £2775.5 and Messrs Tullie, Whitchesters Farm, Hawick sold a 788kg Aberdeen Angus to £2773.76. Four bulls sold over £4ppk on a poorer show overall with a top of 424kgs received by Messrs Neill, Upper Nisbet for this weeks overall pounds per head bull. Dairy bred bulls told to £2298.30 for an  815kg Holstein Friesian from Messrs Mandale, Lambfield, Carlisle much lighter 679kg Holstein sold to £1860.46 for Claremont Properties, Hay Close, Penrith, top pence per kilo of 310 went to a Montbeliarde from Seymour Farms, Leegate, Wigton and Holstein Friesians to 304p from Claremont Properties for 646kgs.

PRIME CATTLE : A lot less prime steers & heifers forward at Borderways weekly Primestock sale due to better weather conditions. Trade on the whole looked stronger and resulted in a heifer taking the overall pounds per head from Messrs Beaty, Langhorn, Egremont selling a 766kg Limousin cross cow to a fantastic £2956.76 selling to Pioneer Foods, Carlisle. Messrs Hird, West End, Cockermouth headed east as well and sold their best heifer to £2815.8 for 722kgs purchased by Corby Hill and Brampton based butcher Steven Wilson. Messrs Studholme, Nealhouse sold 709kg Limousin cross to £2750.92 to Mr Eric Hall. Top overall pence per kilo of 418p went to a 528kg Limousin from Messrs Illingworth, Howgillside, Lockerbie selling to Bowland Foods, Preston. Messrs Lawson, Stubbsgill Farm, Workington sold next best at 410ppk, £2648 for 646kgs selling to Steven Wilson Butchers. Steers sold to a top of £2941.40 for 770kgs from Messrs Studholme, Nealhouse, Carlisle purchased by Mr Eric Hall. Messrs Carruthers, Grassgarth sold 728kgs to £2810.08 to A & D Meats a much lighter Charolais cross steer at 705kgs sold by Messrs Sisson, Fenton Farms, Brampton equated to £2523. A top pence per kilo of 388p went to a 700kg Limousin cross from Messrs Gass, Nunscleugh, Carlisle selling to A & D Meats, Grassgarth Farm closely followed this at 386ppk for their previous mentioned 728kg Steer.
