Kirkby Stephen Spring Lamb and Cast Sheep Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart Held Their Weekly Sale of Prime Sheep on Tuesday Evening when 1631 sheep where forward consisting of 991 Spring Lambs, 640 Cast Sheep and Hoggs.

Spring lambs

Topping the spring lambs at £251 (502p/kg) was a pair of 50kg Texel lambs from Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm, Ormside and were purchased by Dowdings Butchers Appleby.

Messrs Sowerby also topped the pence per kilo at 561.5p for the champion pen of five beltex lambs in out High Fives show weighing 39kg totalling £219. Thanks goes to our judge Ben Cowton, Tow Law for expertly judging our High Fives show and to Tethera Vets for kindly sponsoring.

Terrys farm received the reserve campion rosette for with a pen of five 45kg Beltex cross lambs selling to make £231 (513.3p/kg). With this home selling another pen of five Texel cross lambs to make £220 (478.3p/kg).

Messrs Lyle, Staingills Farm, Penrith sold 55kg Texel cross lambs to make £235 (427.3p/kg).

Messrs Scott, Brogden House, Northallerton sold a pen of four 55kg Texel cross lambs to make £230 and a pen of five 42kg Texel cross lambs to make £200 (476.2p/kg).

Suffolk lambs sold to £233(431.5p/kg) for a pen of 54kg from Messrs Nelson, Rosgill Head, Penrith.

Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm sold the first placed pen of five Suffolk lambs at 49kg to make £223 (455.1p/kg).

Messrs Douglas, Wetheriggs Farm, Clifton Dykes sold a pen of five Suffolk cross lambs to make £211.50 (431.6p/kg).

Messrs Fairburn, Marriforth, Ripon sold a pen of five 49lg Suffolk lambs to make £206 (420.4p/kg).

Mule lambs sold to make £151 (359.5p/kg) for a pen of eight 42kg from Messrs Rutter-Armstrong, Rose Bank, Lazonby.

An overall sale average of 404.05p/kg was achieved which is 37p/kg up on the year.
