Borderway Weaned Cattle Sale

The weekly sale of weaned bulls and stirks took place in Borderway with a larger show of 246 sold. A huge show of 101 weaned bulls were forward which is astonishing given the time of year.  A section average of £1475 was achieved. Topping the sale was first time vendors M/s Grisedale, Milnthorpe attending with a pure Limousin aged 15 months selling to £2740. Blue bulls sold to £1840 from M/s Todd, Wigton who brought 11 to average £1692. Simmental bulls topped at £1600 for two 12 month old bulls. Angus bulls topped at £1880 from M/s Timm, Pickering.

A great number of bulls were seen with Cumbria’s leading weaned bull centre once again ensuring all bulls sold to vendors advantage with multiple customers for all classes.

Steers went on to average £1429 with top price going to Mr Telfer, Rottingham selling a pair of Limousin steers to £1890. Blue steers topped at £1780 from M/s Carr, Whiteclose Rigg. This home also sold to £1590 for three. The same home sold Angus steers to £1850.  Hereford steers topped at £1620 from M/s Irving, Caldbeck. Charolais topped at £1590 from M/s Slaven, Dumfries.

Heifers went on to average £1348. Topping went to a superb Limousin heifer from John Smith-Jackson, Haydon Bridge. The same home sold Limousin heifers to £1730. Blue heifers topped at £1780 from M/s Carr, Whiteclose Rigg and also sold Angus heifers to £1620 for a trio. M/s Lowthian, Penrith sold a Hereford heifer to £1990. M/s Taylor, East Park sold Fleckvieh heifers to £1310. Beef Shorthorns sold to £1450 from Ian Armstrong, Shankfield.
