DAIRY - BORDERWAY MONTHLY DAIRY DAY
Wednesday 1st July 2026
Errolston Hail Sylvia Leads the Way at £4,200
The July Borderway Monthly Dairy Day Sale continued to offer a diverse range of highly functional and profitable dairy cattle from leading dairies across England and Scotland. A total of 215 animals changed hands, with an exceptional trade maintained from start to finish and the average for cows and heifers in milk up considerably on the month.
Topping the sale at £4,200 was Errolston Hail Sylvia VG85, a super third lactation cow with an outstanding udder from the Davidson family’s Errolston herd. Fresh two weeks and giving 45kg a day, the Siemers Modesty Hail daughter had already produced over 12,000kg in her second lactation and is backed by an EX92 classified dam. She attracted strong interest before being secured by the Jackson family, Dumfries.
Leading the heifer trade at £3,800 was Ashberry Rager Lynne 3 from Alan McCamley. Sired by Ri-Val-Re Rager-Red and fresh at the end of May, she sold giving 37kg daily and was purchased by Messrs Blezard, Preston. Alan also achieved the leading consignment average of the day, with three heifers averaging an impressive £3,533.
The Ayrshire section peaked at £3,000 for the stylish heifer Halmyre Urr Ladybird 588 from the Davidson family’s Halmyre herd, who are dispersing their herd as they calve. The Denovo Saxon Red daughter, from a Very Good scored dam, sold one month fresh to Tack Farms, Herefordshire.
Grazing-type cattle met keen demand, topping at £2,150 for a fresh two-year-old Holstein-cross-Jersey from Robert Hunter, Lanarkshire. Selling two weeks fresh, she was purchased by Messrs Crichton, Dumfriesshire.
In-calf heifers sold to £2,950 for a well-grown and correct Cherryhill Actionman daughter from Edward and Linda Wilson. Due in August to Westcoast Guarantee (sexed), she was purchased by Messrs Naylor, Cumbria.
James Rutherford from Ayrshire sold a run of 33 in-calf heifers due from July to October to a top of £2850 twice for heifers sired by Tirsvad 3Star Zazzle Monk and Bomaz Rimrock, both in-calf to Holstein sires and due later this month.
Holstein maiden heifers sold to £1,400 for a pair of August-born heifers from Messrs Byers, Brampton.
A small group of heifer calves from Messrs Vevers, Dumfries concluded the sale, selling to £1,100 on two September-born Montbeliarde-cross calves.
With buyers in attendance from across 13 counties across Scotland and England, trade remained remarkably consistent throughout, reflecting the continued confidence in well-bred, productive dairy cattle and the strength of the Borderway Monthly Dairy Day marketplace.
