Borderway Weaned Cattle Sale

The weekly sale of weaned bulls and stirks took place in Borderway once again with another strong show of 232 being sold.

Despite the pre-sale talk of bulls being harder work a much larger show of 83 went on to average £1432. Topping the sale this week went to a single Limousin bull from Messrs Storey, Carlisle selling to £2290. A larger consignment of British Blue bulls appeared in Borderway with top price going to a pair from first time vendor Messrs Wilkie, Skene selling to £1650. Montbeliarde bulls sold to £1760 from Messrs Kirkwood, Dumfries with the same home selling Fleckvieh bulls to £1760.  Messrs Storey, Carlisle also sold Angus bulls to £2140.

Stirks were once again up the gears and remained at a superb rate from start to finish. Topping the steers this week went to a pair of Limousins from local vendor Alan Hodge, Brampton selling to £1980. The same home topped the Hereford section selling a single steer to £1680 as well as selling a pair of British Blues to £1690. Angus steers topped at £1820 from Messrs McCulloch, Stranraer. Dairy bred stirks sold to £1420 for a trio from Messrs Dixon, West Heddon. Charolais steers topped at £1820 from Messrs Pitchford, Carlisle which also sold Shorthorns to £1590.

Limousins once again took centre stage on the heifer section with top price going to £2060 for a single Limousin from Messrs Tindale, Wydon. British Blues topped at £1690 for four Messrs McCulloch. Simmentals topped at £1710 for a single from Messrs Goldsbrough. Moffat. Angus heifers topped at £1580 from Messrs Coulthard, Carlisle. Many more could be sold in Borderway with more and more customers looking for cattle in Ring 4.
