Kirkby Stephen Prime Sheep Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart Held Their Weekly Sale of Prime Sheep on Tuesday Evening when 1642 sheep where forward consisting of 1062 Spring Lambs and 580 Cast Sheep.

Spring lambs

The sale topped at £250 on two separate occasions firstly for a pair of 52kg Texel lambs from Messrs Sowerby, Ormside which were purchased by Dowdings Butchers, Appleby also matching this price was a 59kg Texel cross lamb from Messrs Scott, Brogden, Northallerton purchased by Andrew Atkinson Livestock.

This home also sold a pen of four 53kg Texel cross lambs to make £230 selling to Lancashire Direct Halal Meats with another pen of 48kg Texels makings £228 (475.5p/kg) and a pen of four 51kg Texels selling for £223, with other pens of eight Texels at 48kg making £218 and six Texels at 47kg making £215.

The consignment of 52 well fed Texel cross Mule lambs sold to average 47kg £207.60 438.3p/kg.

Topping at 515.4p/kg were a pair of 39kg Beltex cross lambs which sold for £201 from Messrs Armstrong, Mooriggs, Penrith.

Messrs Bainbridge, Bonnygate Farm, Soulby sold a pen of four 45kg Beltex cross lambs to make £211 also selling to Lancashire Direct Halal.

Neil Edmondson, Low Wood House, County Durham sold a pen of four 48kg Texel cross lambs to make £225 468.8p/kg selling JAS Wholesale.

With this home also selling a pen of nine 43kg Hill Cheviot lambs to make £163 and a pen of 42kg Gritstone lambs making £157.

Messrs Brass, Espland, Appleby sold 50kg Texel cross lambs to £220.

Messrs Balmer, Forest Farm, Brough sold a pen of 52kg Texel lambs to make £220, with this home also selling a pen of four 44kg Texel lambs to make £210 (477.7p/kg.)

Messrs Chippendale, Wharton Hall, Kirkby Stephen sold a pen of sixteen 40kg Beltex cross lambs to make £197 (492.5p/kg)

Messrs Platt, Far Whittles Farm, Cheshire sold a pen of twenty-one 40kg Beltex cross lambs to make £192 (480p/kg) with another pen of seventeen 41kg making £193.50 and a pen of twenty 39kg Beltex lambs making £186.50.

Well fleshed and fed handy and export weighted lambs were a lot sharper trade with Messrs Slack, Stoneriggs, Hilton selling a pen of fifteen Texel cross lambs at £39kg to make £178 (456p/kg) with this home also selling another two pens of thirteen 37kg at £163 and £162 and another pen of fifteen 38kg Texel cross lambs to make £163. With this consignment of Texel cross lambs averaging 37.9kg £167.36 441.58p/kg.

Messrs Brass, Espland sold a pen of 38kg Texel cross lambs to make £164.

Messrs Walton, Goodlie Hill Farm, Great Asby sold a pen of 37kg lambs to make £160 with a pen of lightweight 35kg lambs making £140 (400p/kg).

Messrs Longrigg, Breaks Hall, Appleby sold two pens of 36kg and 37kg Romney cross pet lambs to make £140.50 (390.3p/kg)

Messrs Chippendale also sold a pen of fourteen 33kg Texel cross pet lambs to make £129.50 392.4p/kg.

Lamb trade at Kirkby Stephen once again defies all odds reporting an overall average of 416.56p/kg at £181.75 per head with only 114 Beltex lambs forward included in the 1062 lambs sold and was quoted as being the dearest trade seen so far this week.

Beltex ewes sold to £263 from Messrs Bainbridge, Bonnygate Farm, Soulby.

Messrs Simpson, Highscales Farm, Wigglesworth sold a pen of eleven Beltex ewes to make £200.

Suffolk ewes sold to £230 for a pen from Messrs Chippendale, Wharton Hall.

Messrs Morland, Shepherds cross, Penrith sold a pen of six Suffolk cross ewes to make £262.

Hill cheviot ewes sold to £199 for a pen of four from Neil Edmondson, Low Wood House, County Durham, with other pens of Hill Cheviots from this home selling to £196 and a pen of fourteen to £184.

Mule ewes sold to £190 for a pen of three from Messrs Chester, Grassgill Lodge, Soulby.

Swaledale ewes sold to £160 for a pen of three from Messrs Luck, Milestone House, Bowes.

Rough fell ewes sold to £156 for a pen from Messrs Kirby, Soulby.
