Borderway Weaned Cattle Sale

Normal business in Ring 4 this week with a much improved show of 224 weaned bulls and stirks being forward.

Yet again a huge show of 96 bulls were forward which is rather exceptional for the time of year going on to average £1352.19. Topping the sale this week went to Messrs Garthwaite, Lockerbie selling a single Limousin bull to £2480. Messrs Kirkwood, Dumfries sold a trio of Herefords Bulls to £1810. Messrs Landers, Newton Stewart sold a pair of Shorthorn bulls to £1850. The same home sold a single Simmental to £1970. Blue bulls topped at £1790 from Dan Taylforth, Penrith. A great ringside of Bull buyers were present in Carlisle with customers from all areas keen to secure the bulls from within the area.

Stirks were a strong trade with top price going to Messrs Wigham, Hargill House selling a British Blue steer to £2200. Limousin steers topped at £1870 from Alan Hodge, Brampton. This home also sold Angus steers to £1820. Messrs Dixon, West Heddon sold a pair of Holstein steers to £1400. Herefords topped at £1550 from Messrs Irving, Caldbeck. Charolais steers sold to £1420 from Messrs Cannon, Newton Stewart.

Heifers averaged £1232 with top price going to a Blue heifer from Messrs Wigham, selling to £1920. Limousins topped at £1610 for a pair from Messrs Wilson, Hexham. Angus heifers topped at £1540 from Messrs Tindale, Hexham. Debbie Brown, Alston sold a single Charolais heifer to £1570.
