Stores sold to an increased trade, with a pen of Blue Texels off Messrs Watson, Millrigg topping at £149 and £139. Beltex topped at £136 from Messrs Cadzow, Duncrahill. Messrs Hastings, Auchenhill sold a pen of Beltex to £135 and £127. Suffolks topped at £120 from Josh Wade, Ewan Close. Texels topped at £127 for a pen of 38 from Dixon, Whinney Hill. A packed ringside made sure all classes were well bid on.

BREEDING SHEEP

Harrison & Hetherington held its weekly sale of store lambs along with its annual “August Fair” of early breeding sheep.

Breeding sheep topped at £360 for 4 cracking Charollais gimmer from Messrs Harrison, Low House. This home also sold a further 3 at £350. Messrs Winter, Brow Top sold suckled Texel x gimmers to £335, £325 and £315. Messrs Jackson, Rigg Side Mews sold to £320 for suckled Texel x gimmers.

Seymour Farms sold their fantastic annual consignment of Suffolk x Cheviot gimmers to £320. Another pen sold to £315 with others to £300. Ewes sold to £275 for Beltex from Messrs Cadzo, Duncrahill. This home also topped the ram section, selling to £650 for an aged Beltex. Messrs Watson, Millrigg sold a Suffolk ram to £600, with Blue Texels to £500. Messrs Jackson, Rigg Side Mewes sold a Texel to £500. Overall, breeders sold to average £266 a rise of £41 on the year.
