Kirkby Stephen Prime Sheep Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly sale of Prime Sheep on Tuesday evening when 2,289 sheep were forward consisting of 1,889 spring lambs and 400 cash sheep.

Spring Lambs

A strong trade throughout with an overall average of 345.1p/kg, equating to £156.57 per head. The 39.1–45.5kg lambs averaged 364.5p/kg, with the best Beltex lambs again commanding a premium.

The sale topped at £215 for a pen of eight 42kg Beltex lambs (511.9p/kg) from Messrs Sutcliffe, Church Farm, Carlton-in-Cleveland.

Topping the pence per kilo at 519.5p/kg was a pen of four 41kg Beltex lambs making £213 from Messrs Mortimer, New House Farm, Whitby on his first time at Kirkby Stephen Mart. This home also sold three 44kg Beltex lambs to make £209 (475p/kg).

Messrs Sutcliffe, Church Farm, Carlton-in-Cleveland sold three 48kg Beltex lambs to make £207 (431.2p/kg), with a pen of eight 44kg Beltex lambs making £198.50 (451.1p/kg), two 39kg Beltex lambs making £198 (507.7p/kg), ten 42kg to make £195.50 (465.5p/kg) and eleven 44kg to make £202.50 (460.2p/kg).

Messrs Mortimer, New House Farm, Whitby sold thirteen 48kg Pure Texel lambs to make £194 (404.1p).

Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm, Ormside sold two 53kg Beltex lambs to make £210, with a single 60kg Texel making £207.

Charlotte & Georgia Davies, Top Field Farm, Leicester sold four 45kg Beltex lambs to make £205, with thirteen 42kg Beltex lambs making £195.50 and sixteen 42kg to make £192.50.

Messrs Hill & Wright, Mill Farm, Doncaster sold two 42kg Beltex lambs to make £198 (471.4p/kg), with seven 43kg to make £197.50 and eighteen 42kg to make £193.

Messrs Atkinson Livestock, Croft House Farm, Harrogate sold eleven 42kg Beltex lambs to make £197 (469p/kg), with four 48kg Beltex lambs making £197 and a pen of eleven 45kg making £194.

Messrs Pickard, Cheney House Farm, Leicestershire sold fifteen 43kg Beltex lambs to make £194.

Suffolk lambs sold to £183 (332.7p/kg) for a pen of fifteen 55kg lambs from Messrs Todd, with another pen of twenty-three 53kg Suffolk lambs making £177 (334p/kg) and a pen of seventeen 52kg making £175.50 (337.5p/kg).

Messrs Lawson, Stubsgill, Cockermouth sold 45kg Beltex lambs to make £199.

Texel lambs sold to £207 for a single 60kg lamb from Messrs Sowerby, Ormside, with a single 61kg Texel from Messrs Hayton & Son making £196.

Charollais lambs sold to £188 (383.7p/kg) for a pen of 49kg from Charolotte and Georgia Davies, Leicester.

Mule lambs sold to £155 for a pen of six 49kg from Messrs Hayton, Great Asby.

Swaledale lambs sold to £111 for a pen of 41kg from Messrs Birbeck, The Close, Kirkby Stephen.

Cast sheep topped at £248 on two occasions firstly for a Beltex ewe and secondly for a pair of Texel ewes both from Messrs Hill, Whitewall Farm, Great Asby.

Messrs Guy, Fountain Head, Bowes sold Texel cross ewes to make £246.

Suffolk ewes sold to £198 from Messrs Hodgson, Chapel House, Penrith

Mule ewes sold to £170 for a pen from Messrs Hill, Whitewall Farm, Great Asby, with this home also topping the Swaledale ewes at £121 for a pen of three.

Cast rams topped at £204 for a Charollais from Messrs Todd, Manor Farm, Market Rasen.
