Borderway Weaned Cattle Sale

The anniversary sale of Weaned bulls & stirks took place in Borderway with this week’s bull section consisting of a special Anniversary Show. A total of 351 being forward which was more than double the entry for this sale last year were met with an overall sale average of £1383. A total of 82 bulls were forward with an average of £1520 being achieved. Topping today went to a single pedigree Limousin 15 month bull from Adam Watson, Saunders Close selling to £2350.  Blue bulls topped at £2230 for a pair of superb lads from first time vendor Messrs Morton, Thornhill. Messrs Stewart, Lockerbie sold a big Shorthorn bull to £2110. A lack of Angus bulls were forward with top price going to Gemma MacDonald, Selkirk selling to £1400. Messrs Todd, Wigton sold a super run of 12 Fleckvieh & Blue bulls to average £1647.50.

Champion went to a single under 12 Limousin shown by Gary Bell, Lockerbie selling to £1950 and reserve went to M/s Moffat, Gretna selling to £2290 for his over 12 month Limousin.

A wonderful show of stirks were forward with 125 steers and 144 heifers being included in the sale.

Topping the steers went to a single Limousin from M/s Lancaster, Appleby selling £2030. M/s Armitstead, Lockerbie selling a single steer to £1610. M/s Forster, Dumfries sold a Hereford steer to £1600. Blues topped at £1680 from M/s Carr, Longtown who sold 37 to average £1210. M/s Taylor, Carlisle sold a Charolais steer to £1640.

Heifers topped at £1980 from returning vendor M/s Gorst, Kendal for a super Limousin heifer aged 15 month. The same home also topped the Blue heifers selling a flashy heifer to £1800.  M/s Taylor, Carlisle also sold a Simmental heifer to £1650. The same home sold Angus heifers to £1390.

A great day was seen in Ring 4 with vendors delighted with the day’s trading!
