Borderway Primestock Sale

PRIME BULLS: Yet another massive show of 141 prime bulls were forward seeing a very plain offering on the whole. Top overall was a 40 month old British Blue at £2651.56 for a 946kg from Messrs Robertson, Newton of Logierait, Pitlochry. Messrs Donger, Seawell Grounds, Towcester sold a fantastic run of 13 big, heavy Salers to a top of £3485.40 for 1110kg. Simmentals from Messrs Leedham, Boghead Farm, Ayrshire sold to £3243.60 and British Blues to £3125.70 for 755kg from Messrs Saunders, Maidenlands, Ulverston. This bull also was the top overall price per kilo at 414ppk.

Dairy bred bulls were forward in their masses with the top overall was an Ayrshire from the Mattinson, Rosewain Farm, Wigton selling to 812kg to £2208.64. 712kg British Friesian from Messrs Inamn, Allerbeck, Lockerbie sold to £2207.20 and Holstein from the same home to £2151.66 for 763kg a top price per kilo of 317 went to a 632kg Fleckvieh from Seymour Farms, Wigton.

PRIME CATTLE : A much smaller show of 53 prime steers and heifers were forward, falling well short of buyers requirements as a fantastic trade was received for all classes forward.

Topping the sale overall was a 737kg Limousin cross heifer from Messrs Mitchell, Mirkbooths, Carlisle at £2874.30 selling to Pioneer Foods, Carlisle. A 679kg Limousin cross from Messrs Dent, Elm House, Appleby sold to £2838.22 to A & D Meats. Top overall price per kilo of 418ppk went to the same heifer with the next best a 669kg Limousin cross from Messrs Mitchell, Mirkbooths at 416ppk. Messrs Dent made the same price another two times with 609kg and 598kg, both purchased by R & JP Mulholland Butchers Shop, Gret Orton, Carlisle.

Steers peaked at £2807.22 for a 793kg Limousin from Messrs Nicholson, The Lake, Carlisle. The same home also sold 781kgs to £2733.50 to Pioneer Foods, Carlisle. The top price per kilo steer was 388ppk going to a 588kg Limousin cross from Messrs Gracie Byre, Burnside, Canonbie. Aberdeen Angus cross out of a Belted Galloway cow sold to 364ppk for a 641kg from Messrs Wainright, Castle Farm, Carlisle and was purchased by Steven Wilson Butchers Shop, Corby Hill, & Brampton.

CAST COWS: A smaller show of 236 cast cows were forward with a trade being similar to last weeks. Messrs Donger, Seawell sold the top price Charolais cow selling for 1248kg, 249.5ppk or £3113 and to 739ppk, 307.5ppk or £2272 both to Ed Nield. Renwick Bros sold the top overall priced Limousin cow selling for 975kg, 267.5ppk or £2608 to Philip Bowes. Messrs Wigham, Park Burnfoot sold Limousin cross cows top a top of 661kg, 343.5ppk or £2270 and to 557kg, 327.5ppk or £1824 to Owain Llyr and Chapman. Messrs Forster, Gillalees Fram fold a British Blue  cross cow for 578kg, 341.5ppk to £1973 also to Chapman. Messrs Harrington, Hosket Hill Farm sold a 38 month old Charolais cross bullock for 687kg, 317.5ppk or £2181 to Ed Neild.

A plain show of dairy cast cows were forward with Messrs Farish, East Farm run of cast cows run of cows topped at 778kg, 279.5ppk or £2174 to Ed Neild. A smaller show of 236 Cast cows was forward with trade being similar to last week.

Messrs Donger, Seawell sold the top priced Charolais cow selling for 1248kg, 249.5p £3113 and 739kg, 307.5p, £2272 both to Ed Nield.  Renwick Bros sold the top overall priced Limousin cow selling for 975kg, 267.5p, £2608 to Phillip Bowes.  Messrs William Park, Burnfoot’s Limousin x cows topped at 661kg, 343.5p, £2270 and 557kg, 327.5p £1824 to Owain Llyr and Messrs Chapman.

A plain show of Dairy Cast cows was forward.  Messrs Farish, East Farm run of cows topped at 778kg, 279.5p, £2174 to Ed Nield, Messrs Gillespie, High Ploughlands topped the Holstein x cows selling for 762kg, 283.5p, £2160 to Les Fell.  Messrs Fisher & Co, Geltside Farm Montbeliarde x cows topped at 900kg, 225.5p, £2029 to Les Fell.  Messrs Bulman, Bank House sold Friesian heifers for 508kg, 297.5p, £1511 and 492kg, 295.5p, £1453 and 539kg, 293.5p, £1581 and 540kg, 293.5p £1584 all to Messrs Chapman. Lambs:  A better trade for fat lambs this week with handy weights a touch dearer and heavy lambs very similar on the week.  1304 lambs averaged 321ppk that 5-10ppk more than other centres last week.  The message still stand that lambs that are not well fleshed are better sold in our store ring. 

Average 1304 lambs average 321ppk, or £147 average  weight 44kg.

Lambs topped at £190 for a pen of Texels from Messrs Fisher, Reaygarth.  Topping the ppk section at 375ppk was Messrs Laird, Unity for a pen of Beltex.
