Borderway Prime Bulls & Heifers

PRIME BULLS: Not even a Bank Holiday can hold numbers back at Borderway as 90 bulls descend on the super Mart of the North.  Trade saw everything very similar on the whole to last week, the quality on the week would most definitely be down.  Topping the sale overall at £3901.66 was the heaviest bull at 899kg, a British Blue from Messrs Comrie, Stonebyres, Lanarkshire, this would also be the top overall pence per kilo at 434p.  Limousin sold to £3587.50 for a 15 month old 875kg from Messrs Nimmo, Bogside, Wishaw.  Farmstock Genetics Selkirk sold a young 15 month old Charolais to £2842.84.

Others top pence per kilos of 416p, and 410p went to 752kg and 875kg from Messrs Nimmo, Bogside.

Dairy bred bulls saw a top of £2051.10 for a 645kg Friesian from Messrs Bland, The Flatt, Brampton.  Holstein Friesians from Messrs Dickinson, High House, Wigton to £2030.72 for 627kg both these bulls were also top pence per kilo at 318 pence.

PRIME CATTLE : A much larger than expected show of 60 Prime steers and heifers forward on this Bank Holiday Monday sale, similar to the bull section quality was poorer overall but more demand was noticeable, throughout.  Topping at £2856.84 was a 798kg Limousin cross steer from Messrs Nicholson, The Lake, Carlisle.  Messrs Millar, Woodhousehill, Lockerbie sold the next best with a monstrous 881kg at £2801.58.  Messrs Airey, The Close, Carlisle sold 737kg to £2800.60.  A Montbeliarde from Messrs Graham, South Lambhill, Longtown sold to £2713.60 at 848kg.  A top pence per kilo of 380p went to Messrs Aireys’s 737kg Limousin selling to Mr Eric Hall.

Heifers sold to £2587 for 650kg from Messrs Mitchell, Mirkbooths, Carlisle selling to Steven Wilson, Butcher Shops, Corby Hill and Brampton.  Messrs Maw, Wintershields, Carlisle sold 685kg to £2479.30 and purchased by Pioneer Foods, Carlisle.  Messrs Mitchells top price per head heifer was also top overall price per kilo at 398p.  Messrs Blake, Halfway Well, Penrith sold a 34 month old Limousin cross to 386p selling to Mr Eric Hall.
