Buoyant Dairy Demand At Borderway
Borderway’s Autumn dairy sales kicked off in style with a superb line up of quality milkers, in calf heifers and youngstock. Several new consignors to the famous monthly sale had special consignments on offer that saw trade top at £3500 on two occasions with a large percentage selling for or more than £3000. The average for milkers came to £2798 and in calf heifers remain in demand topping at £2900 to average £2579. Buyers were recorded from 17 counties across England Scotland and Wales with confidence in the sector building momentum as milk price starts to move in a more positive direction.
Topping the heifers at £3,500 was Townlaw Hampshire Marcy who was consigned by the Sloan family from Darnlaw Farm in Ayrshire. She was a special young heifer sired by Hampshire and bred from the Marcy family that goes back to Ebyholme in Ontario. Three other cows and heifers from this farm sold to average £3125.
Cows also topped at £3,500 with Becklees Tacitius Itea a second lactation cow giving almost 50kgs. She was consigned by the Richard Carlile from Longtown who sold another 3 cows and heifers to average £3166.
The Wadsworth family from Big Balcraig Farm sold ten heifers in milk to average £3025 and topped at £3300 on several occasions. The first was sired by Captain and was giving 35kgs.
The Baxter’s from Park House Farm near Carlisle sold a wonderful group of cows and heifers topping at £3300 on several occasions
In-calf heifers sold to £2,900 for a powerful framed heifer sired by AltaMainstream and due to calve in October to Marpom sexed. She was consigned by the Moffat’s from East Tarbrax farm.
An outstanding group of Pro Cross bulling heifers from the Bell family from Moorland Close from near Cockermouth sold to average £1464 and topped at £1580 on several occasions.
