SHEARLING SPECTACULAR GIMMER SALE

The H&H Shearling sale once again took place in Borderway. A trade more than keeping in line with other centres. Sheep that had lambed met serious demand whilst dry sheep proved harder to cash but still left vendors delighted with the day’s trading.

Continental & Suffolk shearlings sold to £330 for the 1^st Prize Texel Mules from Annual consignors. Messrs Hewitson, Shatton Lodge, with 63 averaging £301.57. Messrs Hewitson, Byresteads sold 69 to the same top, and averaged pennies short of £300. Messrs Houldey, Kirtleton House brought a great run of Suffolk Mule shearlings topping at £300 for the first prize pen. Beltex cross also sold to £300 from Messrs Wallace, Claycrop Farm. Messrs Irving, East Cliffe averaged £284 for their run of 71 Texel x Mules, with Messrs Carruthers, Towcett closely behind averaging £283 for 70 sold. Norman Story, Hilltop averaged £277.31 for his quality consignment of suckled Tex x Mule Shearlings.

Mule sheep met a fantastic trade with shearlings that had lambed holding a super trade whilst dry sheep met slight resistance. Before the sale a stronger entry of pens were with Judge Jordan Rutter-Armstrong awarded the Champion rosette to first time vendor Danny McGregor, Corssing Cottage who went on to sell for £280, which sold 150 to average £256. Messrs Baty, Broomhill sold his normal standard of quality selling 90 to average £283 topping at £305. Messrs Harrison, The Sceugh sold 180 of the first suckled Mule shearlings seen anywhere in the UK to average an astonishing £296.39 selling 100 over the £300 barrier. Adam Lawson, Hundith House sold what can only be described as the pinnacle of Mule shearlings to average the highest average seen anywhere thie year to sell 65 averaging £328.46 topping at £330 for a pen of 45.
