Kirkby Stephen NEMSA Lamb Sale Friday 11^th September 2026

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen mart held their annual prize NEMSA show and sale of Gimmer Lambs on Friday 11^th September, where a catalogued entry of 7,010 lambs were on offer.

A fantastic overall sale average of £190.32 was achieved which is £23.18 up on the year, with 702 lambs and 50 pens selling between £220 & £660.

The sale topped at £660 for the third prize pen of ten in the open class from Messrs Alderson, Howgill Grange, Baldersdale with the pen being purchased by Messrs Richardson, Ghyll House, Dufton.

This home also sold another pen to £255 selling to Messrs Binns, Downham.

Kilnstown Farm, Carlisle had a fantastic run of lambs topping at £460 which were third place in the open class with this pen also being purchased by Messrs Richardson, Ghyll House. Another pen of ten from this home sold to make £285 selling to Messrs Fox, Clitheroe. A pen of twenty from this home sold to make £245 also selling to Messrs Fox.

The consignment of 455 lambs from this home sold to average £216.99.

Our judging was carried out on Thursday evening by John Ackerley, Milton Mains and Paul Gussott, Sommerset with James Towler, Clitheroe carrying out the referee duties.  The overall champion rosette was awarded the first placed in the open class from Messrs Brown, Asby Hall, Great Asby with this pen going on to sell for £450 and were purchased by Messrs Winter, Appleby with a pen of fifteen from this home selling to £320 also selling to Messrs Winter. Messrs Brown also sold a pen of fifteen to make £260 selling to Messrs Fox.

Messrs Hayton, Asby Grange sold the fourth placed pen to make £400 selling to Messrs Brown, Dovecote Barn, Leyburn. This home sold another pen of ten to £335 selling to Messrs Allen, Leek, a pen of twenty from this home sold to make £230.

Messrs Stephenson, The Gables, Ravenstonedale sold the second placed in the small breeders class to make £380 selling to Messrs Addison, Th Oaks, Romaldkirk. The consignment of 115 sold to average £205.53.

Messrs Buckle, Bleathgill, Barras sold a pen of ten to make £325 selling to Messrs Graves, Hesket Demain, Carlisle. A pen of twenty from this home sold to make £250 selling to Messrs Graves, Carlisle with another pen of twenty from this home making £230.

The consignment of 152 mule gimmers from this home sold to average £228.80.

Messrs Capstick, Lockholme Hall, Ravenstonedale sold the fourth placed pen in the small breeders class to make £320 selling to Messrs Deeming, Rugby.

The consignment of 95 from this home sold to average £221.83

Messrs Dent, Greenriggs, Kirkby Stephen sold two pens of tens to make £300 both selling to Messrs Winter, Appleby.

The reserve championship was awarded to the first placed pen in the small breeders class from Messrs Buckle, Buckles Farm, Barras with this pen selling to make £300 to judge Messrs Guscott. The consignment of 89 lambs from this home sold to average £209.69.

Messrs Hancocks, Uldale, Ravenstonedale sold the third prize pen of small breeders to make £290 selling to Messrs Graves, Carlisle.

Messrs Luck, Milestone House, Bowes sold a pen of ten to make £280 selling to Messrs Fox, Clitheroe with a pen of twenty-five from this home selling to make £230.

Messrs Procter, Hillcrest, Great Musgrave sold a pen to make £260.

John Capstick and David Watson were given the difficult task of judging the best run of lambs, with the Peter Pratt perpetual trophy been awarded to Messrs Luck, Milestone House, Bowes for a fantastic run of 192 lambs which sold to average £209.27.

The trade opened and finished on a high with Messrs Dent, Greenriggs being the first vendor in the ring selling 159 lambs to average £204.15 and Messrs Hodgson and Bissell, Park House concluding the sale with 311 to average £203.22.
