Middleton In Teesdale Mule Gimmer Lambs

The highly coveted Mule gimmer lamb sale took place in Middleton & Teesdale market. An entry of 1662 lambs were forward to average an incredible £178.97 +£41 on last years sale. It must be noted that the quality of sheep in the market has gone from strength to strength with a genuine sale of fell lambs which are highly noted for thriving once coming off the hill. One of the largest ringside of buyers seen for many a year were seen within and abig thank you must go to all Customer, both sellers and buyers for once again making this a superb sale from start to finish.

Before the sale, our pre show took place with this years judges M/s Emily Lee & Mr Ben Richardson undertaking the honours. A big thank you must also go to our Sponsers for your continued support in making sure these the success they are.

After looking over a quality show of 10 pens it was decided that the GM Teward & Son cup be awarded to M/s JC&J, White, Rigg farm which later sold for a new market record of £500. The second prize lambs went to Local man Chris Hodgson, Hill House which went on to sell for £260 Third prize went to Mr Malcolm Dent, Wythes hill so sold 10 to £240.

A total of 192 lambs sold over the £200 barrier with running lambs described as the dearest seen to date with pens selling between £150-170 with ease. Tuppers sold between £180-£200 regular away leaving vendors delighted with the days trading and firmly putting Middleton Back on the Map for Mule gimmer lambs.

The introduction of the best run was seen this year with a special award going to the best run of 50 lambs or more. This year was judged by referee Andrew Addison who awarded the prize to David Mallon, Pallet cragg

Carl Stephenson, Pikestone sold a sweet pen of 10 to £250 & M/s Stobart, Grains O Beck sold some younger, well breed lambs to £210.
