Kirkby Stephen Show & Sale of Store Cattle

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their annual September store cattle sale.

Topping the sale at £2650 was a pair of 16 month old Limousin steer from Five Houses Farm Shop, Yarm with a Limousin cross heifer at 16 month old selling to £2640, and other 16 month Limousin cross steers making £2580 and two at £2550 with 16 & 18 month old heifers making to £2540 and £2510. A 13 month old British Blue cross heifers from this home sold to £2220.

This consignment of Limousin and British Blue cross bullocks and heifers sold to average £2348.97.

Our presale show was kindly judged by Michael Wynne, Derbyshire who awarded the champion rosettes and the Stan Davis Perpetual Trophy to a British Blue cross steer from Messrs Hughes, Dona close, Asby and sold for £2480.

With this home also receiving the second prize rosette in the heifer class with a 15 month old British Blue which sold for £2440.

The first prize heifer and reserve champion rosette was awarded to a British Blue heifer which sold for £2500 from Five Houses Farm Shop, Yarn.

Messrs Bradley, Penny Grange, Gigglesworth sold a British Blue cross heifer to make £2570.

Luing steers sold to £2270 from Messrs Steadman, Ellergill, Tebay.

Nice bred young cattle were also good to sell with 12 month old Limousin heifers selling to £2190 from Messrs Atkinson, Green Farm, Colby.

Heifers averaged £2003.49 which is up £97.71 on the year, steers averaged £1960.59 with an overall sale average of £1981.54 which was up £40.51 for 109 more cattle sold.
