Middleton in Teesdale Annual Show and Sale of Swaledale ewes

Monday 28^th September, the queens of the hills took centre stage in Middleton in Teesdale Swaledale draft ewe sale. A catalogue entry of 3000 ewes & shearlings went onto average a superb £254 (+£75) on the year.  A big thank you goes to all vendors for once again supporting the sale and once again providing an unrivalled show of quality leaving all classes highly bid for.

Before the sale our show took place with this year’s judge Mr. Craig Ridley undertaking the duties. After much deliberation the Champion pen was awarded to the first placed ewes from David Allinson & Family, West Briscoe. They also received the Championship trophy kindly donated by the Stephenson Family.  The sheep later sold to £420 selling to Messrs Reed, The Knarr.

The Reserve Champion pen from J C & J White, Rigg Farm took top price of the day going on to sell for £500 to Burncroft Farms. Shearlings topped at £345 for 30 from Reg Peirson, Whitby and Messrs Wilkinson, Shield Hurst sold 10 to £340. Messrs Walton, Swarthymere sold 10 superb breeding ewes to £480 selling to Messrs Coulthard, Bridge Farm. Messrs Mitchell, Parrick House sold 10 to £450 selling to Burncroft Farms and £370 to Messrs Williams. Messrs Graham, Hunt House sold a pen of 21 ewes, ideal for breeding top quality mules, to £365. David Allinson also sold 15 to £355 and  sold 81 to average £324.63

Messrs Bently, Lanehead sold 10 cocky ewes to £340 whilst Messrs Addison, Stoney Keld sold 20 strong ewes to £300. A great day was had with vendors delighted with the days trading.
