SALE OF WEANED CATTLE

WEDNESDAY 30th SEPTEMBER 2026

The weekly sale of weaned bulls and stirks took place in borderway once again. A strong show of 342 were forward to average £1392.16. A larger show of 114 bulls were forward with a larger ringside of buyers ensuring that all classes were keenly bid for. Bulls that had been weathered did meet some resistance but well fleshed, strong bulls were sold we ease. Topping the sale went to a single Limousin from Ian Armstrong, Shankfield Head selling to £2290. The same home sold Beef Shorthorns to £1830 & Angus bulls to £1780. Hereford bulls topped at £1830 from the Kirkwood family, Dumfries. Messrs Dodd, Tundergarth brought some well-bred Simmental bulls selling to £2080 and Blue bulls topped at £2010 from Messrs Todd, Wyndham. Younger bulls met a super trade with Messrs Graham, Laws Hall attending with 16 ten-month dairy bred Blue & Speckled Park bulls selling to £1680 and averaging £1530.

121 steers went on to average £1495.21 with top price going to Messrs Potts, Chapel house selling a Limousin to £2300. The same home sold Shorthorn steers to £2200. Simmental steers topped at £1900 from Messrs Tallentire, Appleby. Blues topped at £1690 from Messrs Nelson, Carlisle. Messrs Graham, Laws hall also made the trip with some well-bred 10-12 month stirks selling Charolais steers to £1560 & selling 28 to ave £1455.

108 heifers went on to average £1336 with top price going to Ballacutchel Farms for a Limousin selling to £2090. The same home sold Shorthorn heifers to £1790. Simmental heifers sold to £1570 from Messrs Irving, Carlisle. Blues topped at £1600 for a pair from Messrs Nelson, Carlisle. Angus heifers topped at £1630 from Messrs Armistead, Lockerbie. 

Next weeks sale includes the annual show of 100 beef bred stirks from Castle Clanyard farms.

With a big entry of cattle from other farms also expected!
