Kirkby Stephen Breeding Sheep Sale

Kirkby Stephen, Faraday Road, Kirkby Stephen, CA17 4QL

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their catalogued sale of 2,047 Registered and Unregistered Swaledale Ewes, Gimmer Shearlings and Gimmer Lambs.

Record was smashed once again this year for the champion pen of ten 2/3 crop ewes  which made £900 from Messrs Hutchinson, Valley Farm, Bowes and were purchased by Messrs Handley, Chapel le Dale.

With this home selling two pens both to make £480 firstly for a pen of twelve which sold to Messrs Richardson, Big Ferney Ford, Buxon and also for a pen of ten selling to Messrs Coulthard, Bridge End Farm, Westgate.

Another pen of twelve from this home sold to make £460 selling to L White, Postern Farm, Belpher.

Another pen of twelve sold to £335 selling to messrs Newhouse, Meg Croft, Long Preston.

The consignment of 97 from Valley Farm sold to average £414.28 which is up a whopping £121 on the year for seven more sheep sold.

Our presale judging was carried out by Michael and Barbara Coulthard, Bridge End Farm, Westgate.

Next making £550 was Messrs Beckwith, New Hall, Barras leading pen of ten two and three crop ewes which also went on to sell to Messrs Handley.

A pen of fourteen from this home sold to £410 selling to Messrs Wallace, Lanehead Farm, Middleton in Teesdale and another pen of fourteen making £350 selling to Messrs White, Belper. A pen of seventeen making £325 selling to Messrs Booth, Low Barn House, Austwick and a pen of seventeen making £315 selling to Messrs Bindloss, Shap.

The consignment from New Hall sold to average £356.74.

Messrs Bland, Cotegill, Gaisgill sold a pen of five three crop ewes to make £380 and a pen of twelve at £330 both selling to Messrs White, Belpher.

Messrs Calvert, Hoggarths Farm, Keld sold the second prize pen of ten ewes selling to make £340 to Messrs Hill, Whitewall, with a nother pen of ten making £315 selling to Messrs Bindloss, Shap, a pen of fifteen making £310 to Messrs Hancocks, Uldale.

Messrs Wilson, Arngill House, Lunedale sold a pen of ten one and two crop ewes o make £340 selling to Messrs Wood, Wilcocks Farm, Rivington.

Messrs Wallace, Gapshield showed a consignment of 150 stock sheep with these topping at £330 for a pen of twelve one crop selling to messrs Ellis, Cragg House Farm, Addingham, with this home selling a pen of twenty-one three crop ewes to make £300 selling to Messrs Lee, Agars Hill.

Messrs Dixon, Garthwaite topped their consignment at £315 for a pen of ten three crop selling to Messrs Brown, Asby Hall.

Shearlings topped at £330 for the champion pen of shearlings from Messrs Calverts, Hoggarths selling to mesrrs Ellison, Bankland, Dent.

Messrs Thornborrow, Brystones sold the second prixze pen of ten shearling to make £310 selling to Messrs Dent, Greenriggs, Kirkby Stephen.

Messrs Wallace, Gapshield sold the third prize pen of ten to make £310 selling to Messrs Bindloss, Shap Abbey.

The champion pen of gimmer lambs sold to make £225 for Messrs Birbeck, The Close, Kirkby Stephen selling to Messrs Bindloss, Shap Abbey.

The third prize pen of ten sold to make £210 from Messrs Brown, Oak House, Ravenstonedale selling to Messrs Waine, Murthwaite, Longsledale.

Some fantastic consignments of strong ewes were on offer which resulted in a trade flying high well above others with mesmerising ewe average of £295.47 being up £91.86 on the year, shearlings averaged £254.07 being £77.51 up on the year and gimmer lambs £150.60 up £35.19 on the year.
