STORE CATTLE
“Just when you thought they couldn’t get any dearer than last year, Lockerbie has done it once again, proving why it’s the number one spot to sell your cattle. Buyers from all over, from Yorkshire to Wigton, Aberdeen and the Scottish Borders, flooded into Lockerbie today to witness a trade you won’t see anywhere else in the country. Calves today averaged a whopping 524ppkg, that’s 60ppkg up on the year, or £78 up!”
On Tuesday 6th October, Harrison & Hetherington held its yearly Sale of Suckled Calves at Lockerbie. Our pre-sale judge was Mr Ashley Story, Newbigging.
He found his Champion in a bullock from Messrs Ewart, Castlehill, which then went on to top the sale at £2,400, or 670ppkg. Messrs Ewart had the second-top price in the calves at £2,120, again for a Limousin bullock.
Topping the heifers at 608.70ppkg were yearly consignors Messrs Wright, Hunthills.
A total of 452 head averaged 482ppkg, or £1,744.65.
