Stronger Trade Again at Borderway Calf Sale
On Wednesday 14th October H+H held their weekly sale of calves at Borderway.
Trade was yet again stronger on the week, averaging £545 for 256 forward. With quality looking exceptionally strong and prices dearer across the board. While milk calves continued to meet a consistently good trade, as expected, the most notable lift in demand was seen among the older, stronger calves.
The pre sale show was judged by Gordon McGregor who awarded the Overall Champion to Alister Vance, with a Limousin bull calf selling to £1000, with Andrew Kirkbride taking Reserve Champion with a Limousin bull selling to £810.
Borderway continues to demonstrate its position as a leading centre for calf trading in the North of England, attracting quality stock and strong buyer demand from both new and familiar faces.
Bull Calves
Topping the bull section on two occasions was Mr Robert McNeil, a new face in the Borderway calf ring, whose two Limousin bulls each sold for £1,035.
Further leading prices included two British Blue bulls from Cooponcarse Farms, which sold for £1,000 each, reflecting the consistently high standard of stock from this well-regarded home. A smart Limousin bull from Alister Vance, Newton Stewart, also achieved £1,000, adding to an impressive set of results for the day. Tremendous quality was presented from all the homes mentioned.
Heifer Calves
The leading price in the heifer section was £1,000, achieved by a quality British Blue calf from Cooponcarse Farms. A powerful calf from W. A. Birse, Newton Stewart, followed closely at £980, further highlighting the strength of demand for well-presented, quality calves.
