Borderway Calf Sale

On Wednesday 21st October H+H held their weekly sale of calves at Borderway with a  total of 259 calves forward with a younger show of calves on offer. Despite the younger age, trade remained strong, with prices looking slightly up on the week. While the overall average eased back slightly to £551 per head, this was largely a reflection of the younger calves forward rather than any lack of demand, with buyers continuing to compete keenly for quality sorts.

Leading the way in the bull section was an outstanding Limousin bull calf from S. Phillips, Netherhill, which topped the entire sale at £1,080. Following on was a British Blue bull calf from the well-regarded home of Coopon Carse, selling for £900.

Moving into the heifer section, S. Phillips of Netherhill continued their excellent day, taking the top spot with a Limousin heifer calf selling for £930. Next best was a British Blue heifer from Coopon Carse, which achieved £820.

Overall, the trade showed a slight improvement on the week, with the marginally lower average reflecting the calves forward rather than a weakening in the market
