BANKVIEW TOP AS DAIRY DEMAND GROWS

Heifers in milk average £3061

Borderway attracted buyers from across the UK for the November Borderway Monthly Dairy Day sale where over 200 quality dairy cattle were on offer consigned from many of the top dairy farms in the north of England and Scotland. Trade topped at £3900 for a second lactation cow with 60% of the sale selling for or more than £3000. 117 Holstein heifers averaged £3061 with 179 cows and heifers of all breeds and including faults averaging £2837.

The last milking animal in the ring topped the trade at £3900, she was an awesome uddered cow consigned by Mark Walton from Bankview Farm in Kirby Stephen. Bankview Victor Audery was sired by Legend-Maker Victor and was bred from a VG dam that gave over 11000kg in her second. Another 3 animals from the Bankview herd sold to average £3133.

Mr Holden from Broughton sold six heifers to average £3180 and topped the heifer trade with Broughton Ann who sold for £3800. Anne was a daughter of Claynook Dealmaker and was bred from a Westcoast Redcarpet dam. This was one of the best uddered heifers sold at Borderway for some time.

Selling for £3700 was Kepculloch Alps Lulu who was consigned by Robert Steel from Kepculloch Farm near Glasgow. Kepculloch animals have been selling at Borderway for over 40 years and this special heifer was the last milking animal to sell from Kepculloch Farm. The team at H&H would like to thank Robert for all his business over the years, it has been a privilege to have sold so many great Kepculloch cattle and we wish him all the best in his retirement. It was fitting that the In Calf heifers topped at £3100 for Kepculloch Arrow Lulu with this group of Kepculloch In Calf heifers averaging £2940.

Alan Reid from Fulton Farm sold five super milking heifers all giving over 40kgs to average £3375 and topped at £3650 for a powerful framed heifer sired by Butch that was giving 43kgs.

Crochmore Farms sold a tremendous group of sixteen Pro Cross cows and heifers to average £2811 and topped at £3100 on two occasions. First to sell for £3100 was a fresh heifer by Denovo Anton who was producing 35kgs and the second was a heifer sired by Viking Red Hadberg Heinz who was producing 33kgs.

Ayrshires topped at £2800 on two occasions with both animals coming from the Marleycote herd in Northumberland. The first was Marleycote Marigold who was sired by Halmyre Urr Lieutenant and was producing 33kgs and the second super uddered heifer sired by Changue Meikle Lad who was producing 39kgs.

As previously mentioned In Calf heifers topped at £3100 for Kepculloch Arrow Lulu who was sired by Arrow and was due in December to Trent-Way Exclusive Red. Holstein In Calf heifers due from December to April averaged £2475.

A tremendous group of 6 Pro Cross In-Calf heifers from the Burgoyne family from Shenrick farm sold to average £2475. They were due in December and January to the Angus and topped at £2850 for a daughter of Virginia who was bred from a Holstein dam.
