Border Leicester In Lamb Show & Sale

Border Leicester females attracted very strong interest at the annual female show and sale on behalf of the Society held at Carlisle with 100% clearance for all entries on offer.

Heading up the sale at 1200gns was the 1^st prize winning ewe and Overall Champion consigned by David & Ian Walker from Pinwherry, Girvan, Ayrshire. Sired by Eildon Merrick and out of a daughter of Knockglass Cruiser this ewe had been scanned in lamb to Meildrim Mighty and the successful bidder was F & R Farms Ltd based near Kirkby Stephen.

The same purchaser also paid 1100gns for the Reserve Champion, a gimmer from Neil Howie’s Alnwick based flock. Sired by Alticane Dakota and out of a homebred ewe by Eildon The Hirsel this gimmer was sold in lamb to Lammermuir Moonshine who won 1^st prize at Border Union Show as a lamb.

Achieving 1000gns was a ewe from Shona Ker, Justinlees Farm, Annan. This daughter of Ditton Dictator, out of a Hill Justin sired ewe, has been scanned in lamb to Mearns Maverick and was purchased on the day by D Harrison from Kendal.

S & A Watson from Culticheldoch Farm, Crieff sold the next two best gimmers at 900 and 800gns respectively. At 900gns was a daughter of the noted Eildon Rob Roy who has been scanned in lamb to Drennan’s Dazzler again purchased by F & R Farms Ltd. This gimmer’s maternal sister had won Interbreed Champion at Fife show in 2017.

Selling for 800gns was the first to go through the ring, another gimmer from S & A Watson also in lamb to Drennan’s Dazzler. Sired by Drennan’s Dalwhinnie this gimmer was purchased by Christine Williams & Paul Tippetts of Lodge Hill Farm, Shropshire.

Average – 15 In Lamb Ewes and Gimmers £729.00; 14 Empty Hoggs £448.70.
