At Borderway Mart on Monday 19th March, Harrison & Hetherington held their weekly sale of store and breeding sheep seeing demand from start to finish very strong despite the wintery weather.
Store Sheep – A small show of store hoggs saw a very strong demand seeing the top price of £83 being achieved twice, firstly from Messrs Holliday, Pine Grove, Walton with a pen of tremendous Texel x hoggs and secondly from Messrs Patterson, Corriehills Farm, Lockerbie.
Leading prices: Texel £83, £68, £67 Pine Grove, £83, £79, £64 Corriehills, £65, £61 (x2) The Faulds Cheviot £65 Dinley Blackfaced £60 The Faulds Swaledale £48 The Faulds.
Breeding Sheep – Following on from the store hoggs saw a great run of ewes and lambs including the annual consignment on behalf of Messrs Jenkinson Ltd, Whingill, Kirkby Stephen which saw the run topping at £90 per head for a pen of 10 broken mouthed Texel x ewes with twin lambs at foot; totalling up at £270 per unit. This run of 175 lives later went on to average £81.50 per life. Many more could have been sold to the vendors advantage.
