A top price of 3000gns was achieved at the annual Hereford spring show and sale held at Carlisle on Friday.
This was for the winner of class 2 and Reserve Overall Champion Moorside 1 Romeo from G & MC Shepherd. Romeo, a March 2018 born bull, was sired by Moorside 1 Joseph and out of Moorside 1 Jane 3rd. He was purchased by Messrs Capstick from Kendal.
JRB Wilson & Sons from Kelso were responsible for the next best bull Romany 1 Reynard who won 2nd prize in his class at the pre-sale show. Reynard was sired by the current UK Hereford sire of the year Barwise 1 Lancer and out of Romany 1 Julia and he sold for 1800gns to Messrs Watson from Borgue, Kirkcudbright.
Best of the females was Monarch Farms’ heifer Monarch 1 Haze by Padfield 1 Kirk and out of Bosa 1 Eva she sold for 800gns to Messrs Grieve from Shilvington, Newcastle.
The same purchaser bought a further two maiden heifers from Monarch Farms also by the same sire Padfield 1 Kirk, both these were purchased for 750gns.
Messrs Dickinson from Catcleugh, Newcastle purchased the first of Monarch Farms’ heifers into the ring Monarch 1 Happy who was sired by Nicholashayne 1 Rambo. Happy also sold for 750gns.
