Borderway Poultry Sale

On Saturday 23rd February, Harrison & Hetherington Ltd held their annual early spring sale of Poultry, Waterfowl, Hatching Eggs, Equipment, Pigs and Goats.

A catalogued entry of 1737 lots of poultry and waterfowl, 74 lots of hatching eggs and 82 items of equipment was presented to a crowd of buyers from throughout Scotland, all areas of England and Wales, also Northern Ireland.

Topping the sale at £340 was 2 white call ducks from M Hewertson which were purchased by Messrs Ashworth from Barrowford, Lancashire.

Messrs Hewertson also sold another pair of call ducks at £300 and this was matched by a pair from Messrs Davies that was also bought by Messrs Ashworth.

At £320 were a Trio of White Pekins and 3 White Pekin Pullets both from Messrs RJ Swale

The large poultry section was headed by a pair of white Wyandottes, a pair of blue Orpingtons and another pair of Orpingtons which all sold for £300.

The hatching eggs were topped at £75 for a dozen Welsummer large fowl from Clogher Valley Poultry and followed at £70 by a dozen crested cream Legbar from the same vendor.
