On Wednesday 25th September, Harrison and Hetherington Ltd, hosted the annual show and sale of North Country Cheviot Hill rams at Lockerbie Mart.
Topping the sale at £6000 was Messrs W & J Thomson, Hownam Grange, Kelso, with a two-shear ram sired by Sorbietrees (4970) This ram was purchased by Cheviot Farming Ltd, Wooler.

Messrs JF Irving & Son, Montbenger attained the second top price of £5500, this time a three-shear ram sired by Whitehope (2224) purchased by Philliphaugh Estate, Selkirk.

Two rams sold for £5000, the first of these was consigned by WN Douglas, Yarrow, Selkirk. This was the first from the Whitehope flock, a two-shear ram, sired by Glendale Rebel, and was purchased by Messrs T Elliot (Bedshiel), Galashiels. The second followed later in the sale, Hartside Hill Warrior, from Linhope Farming Partnership, Alnwick. This Whitehope Phantom son joins the Esk flock, owned by Messrs Bridgewater & Wood, Langholm.

The Hownam Grange pen was in demand, selling two rams to £4500 each. Hownam Grange Whanganui and Howman Grange War Lord. Both sired by Newbank Spitfire and purchased by Messrs WW Dunlop & Son, Commonside, Hawick and Sorbietrees Farm Ltd, Newcastleton respectively.
At the same money was the first of the day from W Elliott Ltd Hethpool flock, Hethpool Warrior. This two-shear ram, was sired by Whitchesters Raptor and was successfully purchased by W & J Thomson, Hownam Grange Farm, Kelso.
Taking a £4200 call was the second entry from the Newbank pen from Messrs M & S Wilson & Sons, Newbank, Moffat. Newbank Walker, sired by Badnaloch Mania was picked on by Philliphaugh Estate, Selkirk.
Close behind at £4000 was Hownam Grange Winner, again consigned by W & J Thomson. Another two-shear again sired by Newbank Spitfire, going to Annandale & Lochwood Estates, Lockerbie.
Following the pattern at £4000 was J Hepburn & Co, Northhouse Farm, Hawick, with North House Whambam. Sired by Whitehope Stig , he found a new home with Robert Rennie, Attonburn, Kelso.
Also selling at £4000, was out of the Hethpool pen, a Woodside Smackhead son. Hethpool Wizard was favoured by Floors Farming, Rawburn Farm, Duns.
Completing the quartet at £4000, was Commonside Wet Blanket, from Messrs WW Dunlop & Son, Commonside. This April born two shear, was sired by Seaforth Major and joins the Hartside flock owned by Linhope Farming Partnership, Alnwick.
A total of 250 rams averaged £995.60 (+£133.65) for 7 less sold on the year.
