Broughton Sale of Suckled Calves

At Broughton Market on Tuesday 15^th October Harrison & Hetherington held their annual show and sale of suckled calves. A packed ringside saw some buyers leaving empty handed as cattle achieved a great trade especially for younger suckler bred types which would be on a par with last year’s prices. Stronger more forward cattle were harder to cash but well in line with other sales and the overall average was only back £3.37 on the year which was very respectable considering the current climate.

The pre-sale show was ably judged Jimmy Rutter, Barnard Castle who award both the Champion and Reserve tickets to RD Holland & Co, Low Scales, Millom. Champion was a 6 month old Charolais steer that sold to £865 and Reserve was another Charolais steer selling to £845. Top overall was a 7 month old Limousin cross steer from Messrs M & D Hatton, Knott End Farm, Broughton in Furness.
