CLOVER TOPS BLACK & WHITE

The 33rd edition of the Black & White sale was one to remember with an electric atmosphere, world class heifers and a new breed record price. Trade topped at 13,000gns, three other heifers sold for or above £10,000. The overall average settled at just over £4000 with 31 heifers selling for £4000 or more with 76 buyers recorded on the buyers list from five countries and 27 counties throughout the UK & Ireland.

The best Ayrshire heifer to ever sell in the UK, Sandyford Famed Clover broke the Ayrshire breed record price selling for 13,000gns to Michael Howie from the Morwick herd in Northumberland with the contending bid coming from a breeder in the USA. Clover had been a winner at both the Royal Welsh and National Calf show in 2019 and was a grand daughter of Sandyford Clover EX97. This perfect heifer was consigned by the Tomlinson family from Leicestershire.

Topping the Holstein prices was Wiltor King Doc Centerpiece consigned by David & Claire Jones. Centerpiece was a daughter of the sale topper in the Wiltor Dispersal this April, Wiltor Silver Centerpiece who sold for 43,000gns. The fourth dam in the pedigree is Larcrest Cosmopolitian the dam of many top proven sires including Larcrest Contrast. This classy young calf sold for 10,800gns to the Holgate family owners of the famous Aliann herd in Yorkshire.

The first heifer to sell for 10,000gns was Nethervalley Kingpin Sara consigned by the Scott family from Shacklehill Farm in Ayrshire. Sara was Champion Calf at the Scottish Calf show and Reserve Champion at the National Calf show in October. She was bred from a special line of the Copywood Integrity Sara cow family and was purchased by Robert McInnes form the Moscow herd in Ayrshire with Luck-E Holsteins from the USA being the contending bidder.

Luck-E Holsteins provided the embryos for the next top seller, Stowey Altitude Jacuzzi Red consigned by John & Mary Hill from Devon. Jacuzzi Red was a polled daughter of Altitude with high genomic type figures and massive udder scores. Her dam was the winning Senior three-year-old at the All American Red & White Show at Harrisburg this year, Luck-E Aweosme Jaccuzzi Red EX92 who sold for $30,000 in the Best of Luck-E Sale this spring. Her full sister Heatherleigh Jazzy Red consigned by D Evans sold for 8,000gns. These special Red & White heifers were purchased by James McNeil from the Cairnpat herd in Stranraer and Duncan Dawes from Oxford respectively.

Holly and Ben Dyer consigned a grand daughter of the current World Dairy Expo Champion, Butz-Butler Gold Barbara. Holben Kingpin Brae oozed style and class and looked every part a big time show heifer. She was the winning calf at the South East Calf Show and placed 4th at the National Calf Show in October. She was purchased by Calum and Steven Innes from Nairn for 9,000gns

The first daughter of Unstopabull to sell in Europe attracted interest from across Europe. Auchensala Unstopabull Sumptuous was consigned by Ali Cook from Annan and was the only daughter in Europe of Blondin Destry Sally. Sally was Grand Champion at the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto, Canada in 2014 and is the dam of the famous Stella Artois EX94 in Wisconsin. Sumptuous sold for 7,500gns to the Harris family from Devon.

The Triple-T Dundee Paige cow family is currently one of the hottest in the Holstein breed. Consistently breeding exceptional cows with world class udders. Selling for 6,800gns was Leagh Triple T High O Poppi consigned by Tim Fitzmaurice from Kerry in Ireland. She was sired by High Octane and bred from the EX95 Triple-T Durham Poppi who was Supreme Champion at the Ohio Spring Show in 2017. This fancy young heifer now joins the Aliann herd of the Holgate family in Yorkshire.
