Three Nations Suffolk Sale

Borderway, Rosehill, Carlisle, CA1 2RS

The annual 3-Nations Female Sale once again attracted much interest with an outstanding show of females forward. The sale featured consignments from regular flocks Solwaybank (Ian & Judith Barbour), Ballynacannon (Dennis Taylor), Limestone (Mark Priestley) and Crewelands (Stephen Sufferin), Pyeston (Stewart Lathangie), Burnview  (S & W Tait), Bridgeview (DP & RA Delves) and Rhaeadr (Myfyr Evans).

Topping the sale at 9800gns was the was the first gimmer from Stephen Sufferin’s Crewelands flock. Sired by Ballynacannon Booty Hunter this gimmer was out of a homebred ewe by Birness Bravado and sold in lamb to Birness Hustler. She was purchased by Messrs McMenamin, from Co Donegal, Ireland.

The sale kicked off with a bang when the first sheep into the ring sold for 8000gns. This was a shearling gimmer from Stewart Lathangie’s Pyeston flock and sold in a half share between Messrs Hutchinson, Kirkby Stephen and Messrs Craft, Fife. Sired by 9500gns Limestone Legacy, she was out of a homebred Roundacre Real Deal sired ewe and sold in lamb to Limestone Limited Edition.

Iain and Judith Barbour sold their first Solwaybank gimmer for 4600gns. This gimmer was sired by Strathbogie Sirius and her dam, sired by Rhaedr Rastafari, had won Champion at the Royal Highland Show twice. She sold in lamb to 26,000gns Crewelands Champion and was purchased in a half share between Messrs Lathangie & Messrs Craft, Fife.

The same purchasers also bought a 4000gns Ballynacannon ewe lamb from Dennis Taylor sired by Malinhead Maverick and our of a Rhaeadr Rolls Royce sired dam.

The Limestone flock sold a gimmer to Messrs Smyth, Co Cavan, Ireland for 4500gns. This was sired by 2018 UK Sire of the Year, Strathbogie A Kind of Magic and out of a homebred Castleisle Knockout daughter who has many siblings that have sold for top prices. This gimmer sold in lamb to Pyeston Pumba who was purchased for 8000gns at Stirling this year.

Best of the aged ewes was a 2015 born ewe from S & W Tait’s Burnview flock. She was sired by Ballynacannon Commander and sold scanned in lamb to 7500gns Burnview Sir William for 2600gns to Messrs Boden & Davies, Stockport.

DP & RA Delves sold also sold a 2015 born ewe this time for 1600gns to Messrs McNally from Draperstown, Northern Ireland. She was sired by Mountfield Mustang and sold in lamb to 30,000gns Salopian Scuderia.

Myfyr Evan’s sold a ewe lamb from his Rhaeadr flock for 1300gns. This lamb was sired by Stockton Snipers Son who won Breed Champion at the Three Counties Show in 2018 and was purchased for 15,500gns. The successful bidder on this occasion was Messrs Lamb from Co Armagh, Northern Ireland.
