Kirkby Stephen Prime Sheep Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly sale of prime sheep on Tuesday night when a total of 4,445 sheep were forward consisting of 3,602 prime lambs and 843 cast sheep.

Topping the prime lambs at £128 was a 43kg Beltex cross lamb from Messrs Dinsdale, High Field, Morland which was bought by Vivers Scotlamb Ltd.

Topping at 300.8p/kg were a pen of six 40kg Beltex cross lambs which sold for £120.30 from Messrs Lee, Carkin Moor Farm, Richmond.

A flying trade for all weights, types and breeds of lambs was witnessed with an overall sale average 205.83p/kg for 3602 lambs and an SQQ of 212.05p/kg being achieved with this average including over 1200 Mule and horned lambs. 553 Beltex cross lambs sold to average £102.92 with a sale average of £90.79 per head being achieved for 3602 lambs.

Messrs Hunter, Upper Brydekirk, Annan sold their consignment of 30 lambs to average 43kg £112.39 (261.4p/kg).

Messrs Dinsdale, High Field, Penrith sold their run of lambs to top at £122.80 for a pen of four 44kg Beltex cross lambs, with the whole consignment of 53 lambs selling to average 45.5kg £112.35 (247.2p/kg)

Messrs Steel, Steeley Farm, Bishop Auckland sold their run of 30 lambs to average 37kg £92.58 (250.2p/kg) with a pen of 10 35kg lambs selling for £94.50 (270p/kg)

Messrs Sayer, Town End Farm, Hackthorpe sold their run of 116 lambs to average 43.7kg £104.90 (240p/kg.

Messrs Philips, Fir Tree Farm, Harrogate sold their run of lambs to top at £122.50 for a pen of 44kg Beltex cross lambs, with another pen of 38kg lambs selling for £111 (292.1p/kg) and another pen of seven 41kg Beltex cross lambs selling for £116.50 (284.1p/kg). The whole consignment of 116 lambs from Fir Tree Farm sold to average 42kg £102.06 (243p/kg).

Messrs Lee, Carkin Moor, Farm, Richmond sold their 202 lambs to average 49kg £105.39 (215.1p/kg)

Messrs Kendal, Outgang Farm, Helton sold 36kg Beltex cross lambs to make £106.50 (295.8p/kg).

Messrs Metcalfe, Leighton Hall, Ripon sold 38kg Beltex cross lambs to make £112.30 (295.5p/kg)

Messrs Fairburn, Marriforth, Ripon sold a pen of 22 Beltex cross lambs weighing 38kg to make £102.

Mule lambs were particularly good to sell topping at £98.80 for a pen of 22 54kg lambs from Messrs Wharton, Keisley Farm, Murton.

Kilnstown Farms Ltd, Carlisle sold a pen of 20 48kg Mules to make £95.80 (199.6p/kg) with the 40 Mule lambs from this home selling to average 47.5kg £94.30 (198.5p/kg)

Messrs Fairburn, Marriforth, Ripon sold another pen of 28 Mules weighing 50kg to make £96.80 (193.6p/kg).

Cast sheep were off the clock with an overall sale average of £90.21 being achieved.

Topping this section at £168.50 were a pair of Beltex cross ewes from Messrs Chester, Grassgill Lodge, Soulby.

Texel cross ewes sold to £160.50 for a pen from Messrs Williamson, Littleburn Farm, Hamsterley.

Suffolk cross ewes sold to £125.50 for a pen of eight from Ayshire, with another pen of 18 Suffolk cross ewes making £116.50 from this home.

Messrs Dinsdale, High Field sold a pen of nine Texel cross ewes to make £140.50 with the consignment of 30 ewes from this home selling to average £130.17.

Mule ewes topped at £94.50 for a pen of 11 from Messrs Marston, South View, Winton.

Blackfaced ewes topped at £73.50 for a pen of 16 from Messrs Haigh, Breckonhill Farm, Hexham.

Another pen of 23 Blackfaced ewes sold to make £72.50 from Downie Farming Company, Aberdeenshire.

154 Suffolk cross ewes forward sold to average £108.79.

35 Texel cross ewes sold to average £104.28.
