The Longhorn Cattle Society's Autumn Show & Sale was held at Newark Market on Saturday 26 October. The show was judged by Lynda Burditt who awarded the Junior Heifer Treverton Secret from Rachael Heard as her Champion and the Junior Bull Southfield Shotgun from David & Angela Blockley as her Reserve Champion.
Junior Bull Pointer Eat You Alive from David Howden achieved the top price of the day, selling for 3100gns. This young bull, a son of Aberdeen Nik and out of Avonvale Imke, a daughter of Mayhill Secundus, has already won noted prize awards and championships during the recent summer shows.
In the bull classes, following at 2000gns was Southfield Samurai shown by David Blockley. The breeding on Samurai carries the prolific show winning cow Southfield Echo on his sire’s pedigree of Southfield Outlaw, whilst his dams line Southfield Mystic goes back to Blackbrook Philosopher and Blackbrook K2.
The females on offer topped at 2300gns for Fishwick Rosella an in-calf heifer exhibited by John Close & Son Ltd. Rosella is sired by Fishwick Lord of the Rings and out of a Blackbrook Pirate bred daughter and carries a calf by Heronbrook Ned Kelly.
A further 2 females both sold for 2000gns. The first was for the heifer and calf outfit shown by Bertie Facon. Gentons Quinnie, a February 2016 born daughter of Wykham Kiss sold with her 4 month old heifer calf at foot sired by Tetford X-ocet.
Also at 2000gns was the days junior heifer champion and supreme champion, Treverton Secret, a maiden heifer offered by Rachael Heard. Secret, a daughter of Tanfield Pilot, has also had a successful show season this year and her breeding line includes Pandora who won Cow of the Year 2010.
Averages – 1 cow with calf at foot £2100.00; 2 in-calf heifers £2152.50; 5 maiden heifers £1743.00; 3 bulls £2047.50.
