Harrison & Hetherington, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their annual May Sale of Beef Breeding cattle when a catalogued entry of 100 cattle were on offer.
Topping the sale at £2900 was a British Blue cross heifer with heifer calf at foot from Messrs Tindale, Paradise Farm, Durham which was bought by Messrs Harryman, Keskadale Farm, Keswick.
Next at £2850 was a Limousin cross heifer with heifer calf also from Paradise Farm.
The consignment of 10 outfits from Paradise Farm sold to average £2420.
Cows and calves topped at £2700 for a British Blue cross cow with a bull calf at foot from Messrs Robinson, Prospect Farm which was bought by Messrs Watson, Aukside Villa, Middleton in Teesdale.
Messrs Capstick, Lockholme Hall, Ravenstonedale sold their consignment of 7 homebred Limousin cross Friesian heifers with Lodge Hamlet sired calves at foot to top at £2400 twice both being bought by Messrs Bindloss, Shap abbey.
The consignment of 7 Limousin cross Friesian heifers with calves sold to average £2202.
Demand for breeding outfits was very strong with many buyers going home empty handed and many more could easily have been sold to great advantage.
