ANNANDALE TOPS WITH PEPPER STREET

The November Border & Lakeland Club sale had another quality consignment of pedigree Holstein cattle from many of the leading breeders in the north of England and Scotland. Trade was a little less on the month with heifers averaging £2039 with 52 animals selling for £2000 or more. Trade topped at 3,000gns for a powerful young bull, with milking heifers topping twice at 2,900gns.

The first heifer to sell for 2.900gns was Watsonfoot Harcore Lilias consigned by John & Anne White from Lanark who are dispersing their herd as they calve. Hardcore Lilias had classified Good Plus 84 prior to the sale and was purchased by the Parkin family from Wishaw.

Another five cows from the Watsonfoot herd sold to average £2213 and topped the cow trade at 2,500gns for Watsonfoot Grazie Betty who was purchased by Mr McCulloch from Stranraer. Betty was sired by ABS Grazie and classified VG87 and was bred from two Excellent dams.

Stardale Holsteins sold six heifers to average £2380 and had the joint top price heifer at 2,900gns. Stardale Achiever Roxy was sired by ABS Achiever and bred from their special Roxy line. Her fourth dam sold for 10,000gns to Wilsbro Holstein and the third dam is the EX96 Shottle Roxy. This perfect uddered heifer was purchased by JC Genetics.

Dunnderdale Holsteins sold a perfectly balanced heifer for 2,400gns to Mr Dickinson from Penrith. Sired by Alltime and bred from the Ortongrange herd this heifer was the modern kind.

Selling for 2,350gns was Espland Unix Sadie consigned by Alan Cannon and was purchased by Mr Graham from Stirling. She was giving almost 40kgs and bred from a Wickham dam with high butterfat.

The Gillespie family owners of the Ploughlands herd sold four very milky heifers to average £2100 and topped at 2,300gns for Ploughlands Rambo Rita. She was sired by Kingboy Rambo and was bred from a VG Extreme dam.

The overall top price was achieved by a young bull consigned by the Annandale herd. Annandale Pepper Street was sired by Silvio and bred from the Papoose cow family. His dam was a VG88 Reece cow and the grand dam was the 6,000gns Manat Papoose bred by the Sterndale herd.

A well-bred group of ten recently served heifers and bulling heifers were consigned by Sue & Richard Armstrong from the Wolfa herd to average £1481. They topped at 2,350gns for Wolfa Diamondback Deroute and was purchased by Grove Farms in N. Ireland. She has been bred on the 28^th October to King Doc sexed and is potentially the 7^th generation to classify Excellent or Very Good.

The Hennikers Holstein herd from Staffordshire sold 19 in-calf and bulling heifers to average almost £1000 and topped at 1,400gns for Hennikers J Legend Skyhope.

The next dairy sale at Borderway takes place on Wednesday 25^th November and features over 125 Holstein Friesian cattle in the dispersal of the Darthogue Herd for the Fisher family from near Stranraer.
