Kirkby Stephen OTM & Cast Cow Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their Christmas cows and OTMs sale were an entry of 75 head were on offer.

Topping the sale at £1737.65 was a 5 year old pure British Blue cow which weighted 871kg and made 199.5p/kg from Messrs Boocock, Stamford Bridge, York which was bought by Owain Llyr, Ruthin.

Topping at 204.5p/kg and adding up to £1424.50 was a 696kg Limousin cow from first time consignor Messrs Ward, Intack Farm, Carnforth which was also bought by Owain Llyr.

Messrs Smithson, Bloan Farm, Brough Sowerby sold a 864kg Limousin cross cow to make 159.5p/kg totalling £1378.08 selling to D. Barker, Scarborough.

Dairy cows sold to £1021.11 for a Friesian from Messrs Beck, Townfoot, Longdale which was bought by D. Barker.

Cast bulls sold to £1462.33 for a 33 month old Charolais from Messrs Scott, Low House, Barnard Castle bought by D Barker.

Messrs Ward also sold a 740kg Limousin cow to make 192.5p/kg £1424.50 selling to Owain Llyr.

The consignment of 7 cows from Intack Farm sold to average 656kg 160.04p/kg £1050.09.

Best quality and good meated cows were still a very strong trade with 12 cow selling between £1200-£1737. 13 cows sold between 150-204p/kg.

An boverall sale average of 120.16p/kg for 75 head was achieved.
