Borderway Store and weaned Cattle Sale

On Wednesday 2^nd December Harrison and Hetherington held their weekly sale of Store and weanling cattle.

STORE CATTLE – At the weekly sale 348 store cattle were forward with a show full of quality throughout the sale and was met with ferocious bidding from the ring side.  All classes of cattle sold to extreme rates but it was those’s with the best confirmation and cover were awarded with some amazing returns.  A marvellous 69 cattle surpassed £1200 which equates to 22% of the sale.  Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm, Cockermouth sold a run of exceptional run of quality Limousin and Angus cross heifers which were full of meat and style.  They topped at £1600 for a great Limousin and Angus’s to £1540 to average a staggering £1456.67 a head.

A great run of bullocks from James Retson, Gardrum, Annan topped this section at £1430 for a British Blue cross and averaged £1350 per head.  Young cattle saw a great trade with a noted consignment of yearling heifers from ME & J Fell, Stanger Hill, Wigton selling to £1260 for Limousin heifers and averaging £1155.

WEANED CATTLE:  A good entry of 172 weanlings were forward with extra buyers about ensuring a great trade throughout.  Messrs Close & Son, Fishwick Mains sold a Longhorn bullock for £970.  Messrs Gibson & Son, Thornton Towers sold the top priced Limousin x heifer for £955.  Messrs Oliver & Sons, Walton Woodhead sold a12 month old Limousin x bull for £945.
