Borderway Store & Weanling Sale

On Wednesday 9th December Harrison and Hetherington held their weekly sale of Store and weanling cattle.

STORE CATTLE – A marvellous show of 331 forward store cattle at the weekly sale which is great numbers for the time of year and certainly more quality about than normal. Trade was once again outstanding on all levels seeing a day’s overall top of £1550 for two Limousin cross heifers from Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm, Cockermouth.  Another West Cumbrian sold another marvellous Limousin cross to £1410 from Messrs Brown, Wilson Park, Workington and £1405 for three from Messrs Wigham, Coldshields, Haltwhistle.  Charolais to £1170 from Messrs Willison, Cinderbarrow, Kendal and Aberdeen Angus crosses to the same money from Messrs Magnay, Greenwrae, Gretna.  Steers were seen to peak at £1450 from Messrs Todd, Longhurst, Brampton for their Limousin cross, Charolais at £1390 from Messrs Dempster, Castlehill Lockerbie and £1380 from Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm.  Messrs Stamper also sold top Hereford cross to £1340 and top British Blue cross to £1330.  Messrs Allen, Ellerslea sold two Simmental crosses to £1260 and Aberdeen Angus crosses to £1255 for a pen of five from Messrs Slack, Cockley Bank.  Finally, Friesians peaked at £1010 for a pen of three from Messrs Hebson, Town End, Penrith.  Next week will be the last sale of 2020 and the first sale will be held on 6^th January 2021.

WEANED CATTLE:  Once again sold very well at Borderway with trade every bit as dear as previous weeks with all cattle selling to the vendor’s advantage.  Top price on the day was paid for a pair of Limousin bulls from Messrs Pattinson, Bonshawside, Lockerbie setting the top spot at £1000 and then Limousin bull from Messrs Cowx, Hudscales closely running up at £990.  A very good quality show of both suckler and dairy bred cattle were forward seeing steers selling to £925 for Limousin bullocks aged seven to eight months old from Messrs Cowx, Hudscales who run of 11, six to nine months old suckled calves averaging £917.

Dan Hutton, Church View, Brampton consigned a great run of dairy bred British Blue steers which sold for £840 for a pen of six.
