Kirkby Stephen Prime Sheep - Charity Lamb

Kirkby Stephen, Faraday Road, Kirkby Stephen, CA17 4QL

A truly heart warming display of generosity occurred at Kirkby Stephen Auction Market at their Tuesday evening prime sheep sale.

Andrew Teward of Fair View, Middleton In Teesdale offered his final prime lamb of the year to be sold for charity.

21 year old prime sheep buyer Morgan Helliwell of Rochdale bought the lamb and put it back on offer again.  What happened in the next 10 minutes was a unplanned spur of the moment display of human generosity when all twelve prime stock buyers present each bought and re offered the charity lamb for sale again.

The fantastic grand total figure of £2150 was raised to which Mr Helliwell nominated Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity, for the children’s cancer Ward 84, which young Morgan has an immense amount of gratitude for due to him spending 6 months on Ward 84 whilst battling cancer 10 years ago as a child, and who he owes deep gratitude towards.

Many thanks must go to the purchasers Morgan Helliwell, Arthur Slack, Andrew Phillips, Paul Bartholomew, James Blenkhorn for Yorkshire Halal Meats & Lancashire Direct Halal, Glen Lomax, Phil Burton for West Scottish Lamb, Gerallt Roberts for Field Fresh Trading Ltd, Simon Jenner, Dan Kemp, Dan Towers, Ben Gray for Andrew Atkinson Livestock, James Birkbeck for JA Jewitt Meats, Harrison & Hetherington with the figure been rounded up by Auctioneer Mark Richardson & clerk Brenda Armer.

In light of all the recent turmoil regarding looming Brexit fears and the current Coronavirus epidemic this was a truly heart warming display of generosity which occurred at Kirkby Stephen Auction Market and we applaud the great support from all concerned.
