Harrison & Hetherington had an entry of 1283 cattle at their weekly sale comprising of a catalogued entry of 370 Store Cattle, 303 Un-entered store bulls and weanlings, 358 Calves and 235 dairy cattle in the Monthly Borderway Dairy Day.
STORE CATTLE – An increased entry of 370 store cattle forward at Borderway’s weekly sale of cattle. Unbelievably trade saw yet another rise in the week with vendors leaving highly delighted once again. Topping the sale was weekly vendors Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm, Cockermouth with one of their usual quality consignments, a Limousin cross steer selling to £1620. An Aberdeen Angus cross closely followed this selling at £1610 from Messrs Grice, Newtown Farm, Carlisle. A British Blue cross from Rose Farm, Cockermouth topped at £1490, while a Montbelairde from Messrs Magnay, Greenwrae, Gretna attained a top of £1465. Heifers were seen to top at £1520 from Zoe Hall, Horsleyhill, Hawick for a Limousin cross and Charolais crosses to £1500 from Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm, and Hereford to £1450 for two from Messrs Robinson, Rowell Farm, Milnthorpe and Aberdeen Angus for the same home peaked at £1350. Black and whites were fantastic to sell with an abundance of frantic bidding on them seeing a day’s top of £1290 for a Holstein Friesian from Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm, Cockermouth. Fleckviehs to £1245 for a pen of three from Messrs Hodgson, White House, Penrith. Many more of all types could have been sold and vendors should take advantage of the Borderway trade and market your stock with us. WEANED CATTLE : A large entry of 320 weaned cattle were forward with all qualities once again being well bid for ensuring all vendors leaving highly delighted. Top price of the day was for a store Limousin bull from Messrs Watson, Sanders Close, Brampton topping the day at £1380. With another quality Limousin bull was Messrs Armstrong, Terrace Farm, Cockermouth selling for a very respectable £1325 at 10 months of age. Clean cattle were also very easily sold once again with heifers topping at £1280 from JTC Escavations, Sowerby Bridge with others selling to £1260. Steers also very well sold with a pen of Limousin steers selling for a very respectable £1070 from Messrs Kermode, Orrisdale Farm. All classes of cattle are very keenly sought after with a busy ringside of buyer present week on week.
