SILVER FROM WITHERSLACK SHINES AT BORDERWAY

The July Borderway Monthly Dairy Day sale had an array of dairy cattle with Holstein, Ayrshire, British Friesian, Montbeliarde, Fleckvieh and one Charolais bull on offer.  Almost 300 head were traded with the top price coming to £2450 for an impressive heifer with the overall average for milking heifers coming to £1906; the Polled Charolais bull sold for £3800. 

The Inman family from Grange Over Sands sold five tremendous cows and heifers to average £2230 and topped the heifer trade at £2450 for Witherslack Silver Hiedi, she was sired by Seagull-Bay Silver and was bred from an Unix dam that gave over 12000kgs in her second.  Another heifer from this home sold for £2400 sired by Silverridge Extreme.

A super group of ten robot ready heifers from Clackmae Farm topped at £2350 to average almost £2000. Nydie Barabo Laureen was sired by Barabo and was producing 42kgs.

Balcurvie Holsteins sold 25 Holstein heifers with the majority selling for over £2000 and topped at £2350 for Balcurvie Rabo Crystal, this super uddered heifer was sired by AltaRabo and bred from a Jareb dam

Wreaywood Holsteins sold 6 cows to average £2200 and topped the cow trade at £2350 on three occasions.  The first was for a super uddered Red & White cow giving 44kgs and sired by their home bred sire Wreaywood Joe Red.    

A quality group of cross bred dairy cattle were on offer with an excellent group of Jersey cross heifers from Mr Moon from West Thornber Farm topping at £2300 for a silky hided heifer with an amazing udder giving 34kgs, this cracking group averaged £1812.

British Friesian cows and heifers sold well to average £1695 slightly less on the month and topped at £1900 on three occasions for cows in their second lactation cow from the Williamson family from the Howes Farm near Appleby. 

Mr Balmer from Forest Farm near Brough dispersed his British Friesian herd and had great support from friends.  The overall average for this robust and productive herd came to £1332 and topped at £1900 twice.  The first was for a third lactation Irish Friesian cow giving 38kgs and the second to sell for £1900 was a late lactation cow due in October to the Charolais.  The Charolais bull completed this dispersal sale and topped the overall trade of the day selling for £3800.

Ayrshire in calf heifers due in the summer and some recently bred Ayrshire heifers sold well and topped at £1600 for a heifer consigned by the Bell family from Aigle Gill Farm, near Wigton.

The sale finished with some well grown cross bred bulling heifers.  The Jersey cross heifers from Mr Thompson topped at £1150 for a daughter of DJ Zummit bred from a Holstein Friesian dam.  There was a younger group of Fleckvieh Montbeliarde cross bred heifers from the Beresford family that topped at £850 to average £770
