Knowe Ayrshire Production Sale

FAVOURITE BEAUTY TOPS KNOWE SALE AT 8K

The Templeton family from Knowe Farm in Ayrshire celebrated 100 years of farming at Knowe Farm and marked the occasion by staging a special production sale of their famous pedigree Ayrshire cattle.  George Templeton is the fourth generation of George Templeton’s to farm this productive lowland farm and has served the breed in many roles the most noted as President of the Ayrshire Cattle Society. 

Ayrshire breeders from across the UK and Ireland attended the sale both in person and virtually.  Buyers were recorded from nineteen counties and from five countries with trade topping at 8,000gns for a maximum pointed three-year-old with cows averaging £2223.  Fifty-five animals sold for or more than £2000; heifer calves were in strong demand with 34 calves selling to average £1449 and three selling for £3000 or more. 

Lot 13 was the lucky lot selling for 8,000gns to John Hunter owner of the noted Ardmore Ayrshire herd near Crumlin in Northern Ireland.  Knowe Favourite Beauty was the front cover cow, she was sired by West Mossgiel Modern Classic and was classified Very Good 89 3yr, maximum points for her age group.  Her dam was an Excellent classified cow with impressive production over six lactations.


Knowe Favourite Beauty - 8000gns

Knowe White Lily sold for 4,100gns to the Howie family from Hillhouse Farm near Kilmarnock.  She was sired by the home bred sire Knowe Norman and had recently classified Very Good 88 points as a three year old, she carried a service due next spring to Bigtime sexed.

One of the standout cow families in the Knowe herd is White Kate and selling for 4,000gns was Knowe White Kate who was purchased by Mr McBride from near Kilmarus.  She was sired by Mr Blondin Pickfish Red and had classified Very Good 87 in her second and was due again with her third in November coming to Clydview Jacot Rose.

A special group of in calf heifers followed the milking cows, they were in exceptional condition with the majority due this year.  They averaged £1974 and topped at 4,200gns for Knowe White Lily.  This ultra stylish heifer was sired by Des Coteaux Amazing and is potentially the fourth generation of Excellent or Very Good cows.  She was purchased by the Adamson family from Swaites Farm near Lanark.

Heifer calves in this special sale were incredible with many exhibiting the potential to achieve greatness in the show ring.  Bidding for these beauties was brisk with thirty-four calves averaging £1449 with three selling for above £3000.  Topping this group was Knowe Renior White Lily sired by Kamouraska Renior who was purchased by Mr Adams from Town End Farm in Derbyshire for 3,300gns.  This calf oozed style and was bred from three Very Good dams.

The only Holstein calf in the sale was Knoweside Pepper Dellia who sold for 3,200gns to Mr Caldwell from Cumnock.  She was bred from nine generations of Excellent or Very Good cows tracing back to Snow-N Denises Dellia the dam of proven sire Durham.
