Harrison & Hetherington had an entry of 807 cattle at their weekly sale comprising of a catalogued entry of 400 Store Cattle, 225 Un-entered store bulls and weanlings, and 182 Calves.

STORE CATTLE – A larger entry of 400 store cattle forward at the weekly sale whereby a fantastic trade was achieved throughout once again especially for plainer sorts.  Vendors Messrs Irving, Thackmire from the Wigton parish topped the sale at £1650 for a Limousin cross steer.  Messrs Kyle, Spoutbank, Brampton sold a dairy bred British Blue to £1505.  Yearling steers from Messrs Longland, Tone Hall, Hexham’s run of Charolais peaked at £1335 for a pen of three.  Messrs Carr, Upper Higham Lane had a marvellous run of 50 Continental x yearlings cattle and peaked at £1330 for a Limousin cross.

Heifers were again fantastic to sell with a day’s top of £1530 for a Limousin cross from Messrs Johnstone, Westray Farm, Cockermouth.  Another Cockermouth vendor Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm sold the second top price of £1520 for a British Blue.  The same vendors also sold the top priced Charolais crosses to £1310 for two.

WEANED CATTLE : At the weekly sale of weanlings demand is ever increasing with trade reaching the heights of Spring time.  Bulls topped at £1240 for a Limousin from Messrs Evans, Halmyre with others from the same home at £1150.  Messrs Roe, Croft House had a Limousin bull at £1170.  Simmental bulls were up to £1190 and £1080 from Messrs Gwynne, Castlewigg.  Bullocks topped at £1335 for a Limousin  and again for an Angus from Messrs Evans of Halmyre.  Simmental bullocks topped at £1280 from Messrs Peile, Parkgate and British Blues to £1030 from Messrs Graham, Wallhead.  Heifers from Messrs Telfer, High House topped this section at £1020.  Charolais heifers sold to £940 from Messrs Ivison, Cooper House.
