Atwood Jessie Tops Evening Sale
The Evening Holstein herd owned by James and Louise Wilson staged their first production sale at Borderway following the July Border & Lakeland Club sale. The Evening herd is managed in an excellent robotic milking facility with numbers on the farm now exceeding 1000 Holstein cattle. The herd is super productive, currently averaging almost 12000kgs with impressive components with a big emphasis on breeding robot ready cows with excellent feet and legs and perfect udders.
Successes in the show rings both locally, nationally and internationally have been numerous and daughters and granddaughters of these successful and much-admired cows featured in this special catalogue.
Topping the Evening Sale was, Evening Atwood Jessie who sold for 8,000gns going to the Denis Oneil from near Gisburn from the Denholme Holstein herd. This ultra stylish two year old was classified Very Good 88 and will be shown at the National Show this September. Jessie oozed style from front to end she was bred from a deep and strong cow family tracing back to an Excellent 94 fifth dam that produced over 130 ton of milk for the Dalesend Holstein herd.
Selling for 6,000gns was a Miami daughter of the herd favourite, Riverdane Ashlyns Gold who was the winning Senior Cow at the European Show in 2019. She is currently classified Excellent 95, her dam is the Excellent 94 Talent Ashlyn who was All Britain in 2012 followed by Durham Ashlyn who won Intermedaite Champion at the National Show in 2010 who was a daughter of the World Dairy Expo and Royal Winter Fair Grand Champion Tri-Day Ashlyn EX96. This super balanced yearling was purchased by Slatabogie Holsteins in N. Ireland.
An outstanding group of young calves sold to top at 3,600gns for Evening Sidekick Sallie who was purchased by the Carldanton Holstein herd near Bolton. Sallie was bred from 12 generations of Excellent or Very Good cows, her grand dam was Evening Talent Sallie who classified Excellent 95 and who produced over 70 ton of milk lifetime.
The Beatexus cow family has had a massive impact on the Evening herd over the years breeding super powerful cows that produce oceans of milk. Selling for 3,000gns was Evening Apps Betty, she was sired by Lindenright Apps and will potentially complete the tenth generation of Excellent or Very Good cows. Betty was purchased by the Carldanton Holstein herd near Bolton.
Warnelview Cup Irene is another super successful show cow at Evening winning at the Royal Highland Show in 2018. Her daughter, Evening Calvados Irene sold for 3,000gns to Kirsty Yates from the Meiklefirth Holstein herd near Castle Douglas.
