On Monday 2^nd August Harrison & Hetherington held their weekly sale of Primestock.

PRIME BULLS: A good entry of 86 prime bulls was on offer to one of the dearest trades seen for some time at Borderway. M/s Lawson, Stubsgill Farm sold Limousin x bulls for 839kg at 237.5p totalling £1992 and 791kg at 243.5p totalling £1926 bought by Charles Kirkpatrick, Lockerbie and Morgan Helliwell. M/s Goldie, Greenfield sold the top priced Charolais bull for 867kg at 224.5p totalling £1946 to Bowland Foods. M/s Wilshaw, Oulton Hall sold the top priced Blonde bull for 804kg at 223.5p totalling £1796 to Charles Kirkpatrick, Lockerbie. Messrs Twentyman , Osborne Farm sold the top priced British Blue bull for 677kg at 253.5p totalling £1716 to Geoff Nutter. M/s Hewitson, King Hill sold a 30 month Friesian bull for 651kg at 202.5p totalling £1318 to Jewitt Meats. Seymour Farms sold a Fleckvieh x bull for 636kg at 206.5p totalling £1313 to Bowland Foods. M/s Mattocks, Aulby Farm run of Friesian bulls topped at 559kg at 207.5p totalling £1203 to Rob Medcalf.

PRIME CATTLE: A small entry of 25 prime cattle were on offer with a great trade for all classes. Messrs Lawson, Hundith House run of outstanding cattle topped at £769, 245.5ppk or £1887 and to 736kg, 248.5ppk or £1828 for Limousin bullocks and to 713kg, 247.5ppk or £1784 for a Limousin cross heifer purchased by Pioneer Foods.

Messrs Blake, Halfway Well run of well finished cattle topped at 686kg, 249.5ppk or £1711 for a Limousin cross bullock and to 670kg, 246kg or £1711 for a Limousin cross bullock and to 670kg, 246.5ppk or £1651 for a Limosuin heifer again by Pioneer Foods.  Messrs Hird, West End Farm sold two Limousin cross heifers for 589kg, 273.5ppk or £1610 and to 575kg, 275.5ppk or £1584 purchased by Mr Mulholland and Kingstreet Butchers.

CAST COWS: A great entry of 311 casts cows and stock bulls was on offer to an increased ringside of buyers ensuring a great trade for all classes. Mr Ed Astley, West Stobswood sold an outstanding British Blue cow for 789kg at 239.5p totalling £1889 bought by Owain Llyr. Messrs Hunter, Upper Brydekirk sold a British Blue cow for 761kg at 239.5p totalling £1822 bought by Charles Kirkpatrick. Messrs Parsons, Slealands’ run of cows topped at 750kg at 239.5p totalling £1796 and 745kg at 207.5p totalling £1545 for British Blue cows and 722kg at 209.5p totalling £1512 for a Limousin x cow purchased by Charles Kirkpatrick and Jewitt Meats(x2). PRIME SHEEP: On Monday 2^nd August Harrison & Hetherington held their weekly sale of Prime sheep where a lighter show of 2045 head were forward.  Borderway once more stood proudly at the top of the league for averages this week seeing an overall average of 235.7p or £102.53 per head which is some 10-15p per kilo above other outlets selling today.  Leading the way at £164 was a wonderful 50 kg Texel lamb from Messrs IT Goldie, Greenfield which also topped per kilo at 328ppk.  Messrs Goldies run of lambs averaged £134.17 per head or 288.1ppk.  Messrs Musgrave, Cardew Hall sold a fantastic run of 42 Beltex cross lambs with 4 lots at £130 or more to average £121.42 (£2.29kg, 287.13ppk).  Suffolks sold to £128 from Messrs Read, Midtown, Burgh By Sands and to 239.2p from Gary Bell, Haas Side, Lockerbie.  Mules sold to £110 (x2) from Messrs Foster, Coombe Crag and Messrs Hope, Albie Rigg and to 226.9p from Messrs James, Midtodhills.  Plenty of runs of first cross lambs selling at 240ppk.
