Kirkby Stephen Prime Sheep Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly sale of prime sheep on Tuesday night when 2,560 sheep were forward consisting of 1,557 prime lambs and 1,003 cast sheep. 

Topping the sale at £161 were a pair of Texel cross lambs from Messrs Teward, New View Farm, Darlington which were bought by A. Atkinson.

Topping at 327.8p/kg were a pen of 36kg Beltex cross lambs which sold for £118 from Messrs Hunter, Upper Brydekirk, Annan.

Messrs Ewin, Black Syke, Sandford sold a pen of 41kg Beltex cross lambs to make £134 (326.8p/kg).

Messrs Lyle, Staingills, Penrith sold a pen of Blue Texel cross lambs weighing 41kg to make £134 (326.8p/kg), another pen of six 39kg Beltex cross lambs sold to make £127 (325.6p/kg) also from this home.

Messrs Walton, Goodlie Hill Cottage sold 46kg Beltex cross lambs to make £136.

Messrs Allinson, Windygate, Winton sold a pen of Beltex cross lambs to make £135 selling to Dowdings Butchers, Appleby.

Our annual prize show for young handlers was held with Mr E Braithwaite, Kirkby Stephen kindly carrying out the judging.

The overall champion handler was awarded to 10 year old Leah Walton whos 47kg lamb went on to sell for £130.

The overall reserve champion handler went to 7 year old George Pedley whos 42kg Badgerface Texel sold for £112.

Trade for any smart bred lambs and all good meated lambs was strong and was the dearest seen so far on the week.

40 pens and 124 lambs sold between £120-£161.

21 pens sold between 3.00-3.27p/kg

Messrs Wilson, Wood Farm, Thursby sold a pen of 47kg Texel cross lambs to make £130 with another pen of twelve 50kg Texel cross lambs making £126.50 also from this home.

Cast sheep were once again another strong trade.

English mule ewes sold to £130.50 for a ringful of 34 from Messrs Lee, Carkin Moor Farm, Richmond.

Another pen of 20 Mule ewes sold to make £121.50 also from this home.
